Keep up your excitement while singing!

Hey guys,

So I got some time and like to share with you some knowledge that helped me to boost my singing. For sure it will get controversial, especially for Adele fans. :) And I’m not an English native speaker so there will be mistakes.

It is about keeping up your excitement/arousal while singing.

I think it’s one of the most important things in singing. This kind of excitement/tension/arousal gives you focus and the strength for a song. Obviously it’s very exhausting to keep up the focus on this kind of body feelings. But you can practice it by doing so. If you have problems feeling something intense enough, you might wanna start some mindfulness practice.

The difficult part is to get excited in a way you still have control over it and not get exhausted within the first minute :) if you keeping up the tension while singing e.g. quite low notes you will still sound strong and present. By strong I mean, you’ll be able to hit the right resonance and are able to hold them. But be aware, this will make the singing way more exhausting, but it’s worth it. :)

Unfortunately we all have an individual limit on that. For example, I will never be able to bring up that much energy for two hours straight, like Freddie Mercury did. Even if I practice this for a decade. That’s not how my being works.

Of course I brought you a (controversial) comparison.

I believe that Adele has reached her limit in many songs and because of her ongoing career she has to sing more and more difficult songs which she is not able to sing. Sorry :*

In “Hello” for example. She can’t lift the high notes into the right resonance. It’s most of the time a bit too low. I believe it is because she can’t bring up the energy for that. So if I have to interpret the art, I’d think “she doesn’t feel what she sings” “does she even care about the guy in the song?”. Don’t get me wrong, It’s a beautiful song and it’s a nice and very existential topic. I just don’t feel the existential the song has from Adele.

Now there is someone who I think totally nails it. It’s a different arrangement and style of the song but she totally hits the notes. Listen how she keeps up the mentioned excitement in her voice and never let loose of it.

Jae Soto - Hello https://youtu.be/YLIqYiQGSJM

So that’s my thinking on that topic. It might help you. It helped me for sure.

Btw.: I still listen to Adele sometimes :D but since I experienced this and now know to what else I can listen to interpret the art better, I have a different picture of her.
