Painting on plastics that will be worn (sunglasses)

I've never done any serious painting, however lately I have the a strong desire to customise some sunglasses so I am researching my options in a bid to minimise the learning curve a bit. My initial plans are to make use of strong contrast and bright colours with hard edges, taking inspiration from the nail art community with lots of masking, dotting, and fine detail. The biggest unknown at the moment however is the choice of paint, and the implications of the processes surrounding that choice - especially since the sunglasses will be worn on a person's (potentially sweaty) face. I haven't had much luck finding information elsewhere.

Currently I am considering acrylics, enamels, and nail polish (lacquers?) as my options, though there may be others I'm unaware of. Acrylics sound like the best option in terms of ease of use and colour ranges, however my understanding is that they will likely require more surface preparation (sanding/adhesion promoter/primer), and a finisher to make it safe to wear (no idea about options here). The compromise with enamels here would be less surface preparation, potentially allowing me to retain the original finish of the sunglasses in some cases at the expense of harder to use paints and restricted colour selection. As a guy I don't exactly know where nail polish would fit here - especially since I'll be using it unconventionally - though I suspect it may fit somewhere in the middle ground, assuming good colour selection but with some surface preparation and a harder to use paint than acrylics. Has anyone here had experience with a similar project that might be able to offer some advice on selecting paints for plastics that will be worn?
