Holy shit I’m in love with this game, I regret not trying it sooner 😅

So this is more of an appreciation post, but I’m also willing to discuss what makes this game so addicting and incredible.

I bought the voidheart edition on sale, a few weeks ago. This is my first post here and I just want to talk about the things that I love about HK. Also I don’t have anyone to talk to about HK, so there’s that 😭

First of all, the art style and the whole aesthetic of the game is is beyond amazing for me. I’m in love with pretty much all of the designs so far. Hollow Knight himself looks so cool, he has that ominous and dangerous look about him even though he’s a tiny creature.

Music is very enjoyable. I love how well it fits to the areas that you find yourself in, I can totally lose myself in this world thanks to that. Sound in general is cool as hell (my personal favourite is when you use the dream nail).

This progression system is what I love the most about the core gameplay (apart from the combat of course). The game doesn’t give you too much information, and even leave you in the dark for the most part. It’s up to me to explore and find new locations, items etc. I really enjoy this, it reminds me of how the Soulsborne games work. The whole movement system is what I would expect of a platformer-type game, but I can tell you that I was never as excited to unlock my double jump and dash as I was here lol. It’s just so addicting when I’m trying to find my next movement-enhancer item.

The combat is challenging and fun, and I’ll compare it to Souls games again 😅 so forgive me. I beat some of the early game bosses on my first try, but man it gets sooo much harder, even with all the upgrades. Fighting is a great mixture of reflex, muscle memory and prediction.

I am pretty deep into the game at this point. I got the crystal heart and monarch wings just yesterday, I feel so proud 😆. My nail is upgrades to „Coiled” and I have 7 lives, with two additional slots for soul, next to the main big one.

Recently I have been struggling with two bosses, who I still haven’t beaten - Failed Champion and Broken Vessel. I can’t keep up with them for shit, I feel like their movements are so much fastrr than the bosses I fought so far.

Edit: How could I forget about the story... it’s another part of the game which really stands out for me. I found it puzzling st first, and even though I have made a lot of progress I still don’t know what EXACTLY is going on. However I feel like this was done intentionally, because I find myself constantly hungry for more information. Currently, the biggest mystery for me is who tf am I really? A higher being? Even then, what exactly is that? I’m definitely not an insect like the others, just judging from my interactions with them. A lot of the time I get called „a shadow/ a little shadow” which is also mysterious. Please don’t tell me though, I want to wonder about this, or find out myself 😆
