What makes nail designs look more masculine?

I know society says all nail polish is for women, but I think this subreddit shows how wrong that impression is. On the flip side, I do wonder if anyone else finds themselves associating certain nail art designs with gender expression.

For example, I find that, if a nail art design makes the nail look wider (e.g. horizontal stripes), my brain thinks the design looks “masculine.“ I don’t know why. I have weird ideas about masculinity, I guess?

So how about you? Are there any nail art designs that look masculine to you? If so, why?
