Let me start off by saying Ive been a fan since the mid 90’s and been to 25 or so Tool shows. I love Tool and I think Fear Inoculum is a great album. I’ve been listening to it pretty much everyday all day since it’s release. It fits very well with the rest of the discography and I am very pleased with the effort the boys put in on it. It excels at creating atmosphere and the musicianship is out of this world. Its seems to have really grabbed the younger fans, which is awesome! It’s just about what I expected this go round, a more mature and subdued album. With that said, it still ranks about 4th on my list of Tool albums and doesn’t quite reach the high water marks of the masterpieces that were lateralus and Ænima. (My list btw: 1. Lateralus 2. Ænima 3. 10,000 days 4. Fear Inoculum 5. Undertow 6. Opiate) The majority of bands don’t write one great album, let alone have 2 masterpieces back to back. Tool was one of the few bands that managed to catch lightning in a bottle twice. I see a lot of people seem to have an issue with the fans who don’t believe that this isn’t the greatest tool album ever made. If Fear Inoculum isn’t somebody’s favorite album, it’s ok! & vice versa! It’s all subjective! With the time in between albums, This is a lot of new fans 1st go at a new tool release. Let them have their time (& outrageous tix prices lol) without bashing it, everybody’s experience is different! We have had our time, let the new adopters have theirs! Also, stop ripping the guys apart that don’t think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. It’s like nails on a chalk board reading the atypical tool fan, “ah man, you just don’t get it” or “you just need more listens.” I actually agree with a lot of the FI contrarians complaints, Maynard mailed it, recycled riffs galore, $ grab, ect... whether or not you like it, it’s still Tool, and I will always respect every piece of art these 4 dudes put out.
