I am a fine art photographer / self portrait artist.
My first account, @shelbiedimond was deleted at 17k in 2016. My backup account @notshelbiedimond was deleted in July 2019 at 19.7k, over a photo of censored darkroom test strips. My amazing following made enough of a stink about it by sending reports to IG under “something isn’t working”, and @notshelbiedimond was reinstated for 24hrs before disappearing without any warning. Then, I made @thatshelbiedimond and tried to keep it as vanilla as possible, which lasted about a week. After that, @shelbiesecrets, my private - patreon only account was deleted. So I made @shelbieshoots, and posted NOTHING that could have even remotely been considered nude. IG started deleting images where I am fully clothed with no explanation!
This morning I woke to find @notshelbiedimond and @thatshelbiedimond reinstated, but my main @notshelbiedimond was deleted AGAIN within moments.
Background:
I had a “following” which carried over from this awesome community on flickr long before I began to speak out against the cult in which I was raised (Jehovah’s Witnesses- you will see me refer to them as JW's or "jdubs")
I began doing nude photography & modeling a solid two years before I even realized it was a cult!I had NO issues sharing my work then.
Everything was peachy-keen up until 2016, a year after I “came out” about my past life and subsequently started voicing my criticisms. At this point, I was receiving hate mail on a weekly basis & this was also when the harassment began. I started to have images reported & removed almost daily.
The past week IG has been deleting images which are fully clothed. This was the final nail in the coffin for me. Usually, when IG deletes my posts they give a reason, and that reason is 100% of the time “sexual activity or nudity”- which is insane because I censor ALL of my images for nudity - but this past week I have had 3 posts removed with no explanation.
I am POSITIVE it is some JW that is making it their life’s mission to sabotage my livelihood, and Instagram wouldn’t help me even though I sent emails every day explaining my situation. I never got so much as a response.
I’m very scared, as I am moving to Italy in two months to study and I had planned on supporting myself via the livelihood which I have spent the past 8 years building. Instagram was my main outlet to promote my patreon and online print store.
Has anyone experienced this madness? Is there anyway to talk directly with an IG rep to explain that I am obviously being harassed?
