Hello! I just graduated art school, which as we all know doesn't pay the bills. I got a job as an accounting assistant which I hated because I was sitting down inside the whole day. My previous summer job at a nursery had me active and working outside arranging heavy plants. Anyway, I quit my accounting assistant job and realized as I was applying to jobs that some of the skills I learned in art school could translate well into the trades. As a freshman they introduced us to the woodshop as a place to build sculptures and I got familiar using miter saws, table saws, band saws, nail guns etc. So I started thinking I could become a carpenter's apprentice, but how do I start?!!! I'm currently living in North Carolina in the Asheville/Hendersonville area. The websites for North Carolina trades are hard to navigate so I just ended up calling the NCWorks Career Center and they gave me a couple of numbers to call and I'm waiting to hear back. Is there anything I'm overlooking or anything else I should be doing. Am I heading in the right direction? Any info would be appreciated.
