AITA for not doing my family’s nails for free?

Not sure how to start this so I’ll just say I do a pretty mean set of nails.

I’m self taught and have been working on my nail art skills for about 4-5 years now, and often times I end up doing them for girls at my school before dances.

So my family has taken notice of this and normally compliments my talent and will joke about how I need to teach them how to do the stuff I do, etc.

A lot of times my aunts/cousins will say that I should do their nails some time and I’ll agree because why not right?

That’s where this particular situation begins.

So abunch of my family was over about a week ago and the topic of my nails came up and they started talking about it and asked if I could do their nails in a week. I said yes and asked them what they had in mind and she asked for (I’ll try to explain this the best I can) a simple design that’s still a little hard and complex to do, if that makes sense.

I told her I could do it and I asked if she was alright with paying me like 2-4 dollars. (I’m shy when it comes to asking things like that which is why I didn’t bring up the payment prior). She kind of laughed like I was joking and my dad told me to stop saying things like that.

She told me I can do them once for free then after that she would start paying me. Normally I would just agree if this was a random person or a girl from school, but my family sees my nails all the time as well as pictures of other clients I’ve done on facebook, so there wasn’t really a reason for her to doubt my skills. I brought this up and my dad went off on me about how I shouldnt be selfish and how I should “do things for my family because they are always there for me”. Or something like that anyway. My aunt kind of laughed it off and agreed with him.

She kind of argued with me and brought up things like how I’m a teenager and she shouldn’t have to pay me since I’m not a professional, how I do my friends nails for free, and how it was a “simple design”.

I didn’t really want to argue back because it was already awkward enough so I just casually explained that the design was still hard to do despite its simple appearance, and that I experiment on my friends nails which is why I do it for free.

My dad told me to drop it and gave me a death glare, he said i could do it and they both agreed on a time for my aunt to come over here.

After she left my dad told me that I shouldn’t be so stingy and ask money for something that I like doing anyway. I’ve been getting mixed messages about this from different people, mostly my friends telling me I’m innocent and my family telling me I’m in the wrong.

So am I the asshole?

Shortened version: I didn’t want to do my aunts difficult nail design for free and now my family is saying I’m being stingy.
