Could Your Shoe Choice Be The Reason For Foot Pain?

Foot Pain? It could be your shoes!

Many causes of foot pain are due to the shoes we wear. A lot of people don’t know this, but shoe choice greatly determines the health of your feet. Gone are the days when shoes had a simple and less complicated design. Fashion has completely taken over how we perceive things. With the proper footwear, you can avoid foot pain. Below is a list of shoe styles that can cause foot pain and foot problems.

FOOTWEAR THAT CAUSES FOOT PAIN:

Ultra High Heels

A while back, we only had high heels. But, today, we have ‘ultra’ high heels, and ladies love them. Besides being quite fashionable, these shoes do cause adverse effects on the health of your feet. The most common effects are ankle sprains and the infamous pump bump, which is a painful knot that develops at the back of the heel. Wearing these shoes for long hours does put a lot of pressure at the ball of the foot causing bone inflammation. The ideal alternative for this shoe choice is wearing shorter heels. Although, it should preferably be not more than two inches. However, A lower heel will ensure that your feet retain a natural position.

Pointy Shoes

Pointy shoes do possess an elegant style, but unfortunately, they firmly squeeze your toes. This can lead to blisters and immense toe pain. If you have long nails, this can cause bruises. You can also develop bunions, which is the bending of the big toe. Hammertoe is another complication that may arise. To counter this problem, you should wear shoes with a wide toe box and that fit the shape of your foot properly.

Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are mostly associated with plantar fasciitis. It’s because this shoe choice provides poor arch support. However, ballet flats are quite comfy and look good. To avoid getting plantar fasciitis and achy heels, you can purchase orthotic inserts. They will significantly help in minimizing foot pain. And, the cushioning is perfect for achy heels.

Stilettos

Another popular footwear today are stilettos. No matter how perfectly you have mastered the art of walking in them, the chances of you tripping and spraining your ankle are very high. The narrowness feature makes stilettos an even worse choice than regular heels. Nonetheless, chunky heels are the proper footwear which will ensure that you don’t sprain your ankle. This is due to a broader surface area that distributes the weight of your feet evenly.

Flip Flops

The comfort that comes from wearing flip-flops is exceptional. No wonder they are a popular shoe choice for most people. Nonetheless, these shoes can cause splinters, plantar fasciitis and a couple of other foot conditions. It’s recommendable that you wear fitted flops that provide arch support. And, they are also raised to protect your feet from injury.

Wedges

A wedge may appear to be comfy, but it causes a lot of strain to your legs. This causes strain because the rigidness of the shoe prevents your foot from bending in a particular way when walking. A flatter wedge is a better shoe choice because it minimizes the pressure exerted on your feet.

The above are different shoe choices that can lead to foot pain. Ensure that you stick to proper footwear to avoid any complications. Always wear the correct shoe size, and wear those with a shorter heel and sufficient arch support.
