Suggestion for future addition of commanders in C&C Rivals

This list contains existing prominent characters and their would-be commander skills. For example, if you are planning to add a GDI commander who has a skill which uses A-10 airstrike, then M.O. Morelli fits for the job.

  1. Tiberian Dawn

1-A. Tiberian Dawn, GDI

1-A-a. M.O. Morelli

A GDI air force commander. In mission FMVs she is on A-10 which she pilots.

Recommended commander skill: (1) A-10 airstrike (1)This is the A-10 napalm carpet bombing GDI uses on Tiberian Dawn. Select a bombing run starting point on the map(Line of Sight required), then one A-10 flies in and performs 4-hex carpet bombing. This fire bomb is similar with that of Scarab or Inferno.

1-A-b. J.C. Carter

A GDI commander who appears in early GDI missions. He is on the battlefield before the player and informs us of the combat situation, also commands gunboats which performs barrage support.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Field surveillance, (2) Offmap barrage support (1)Once used, all missile pads and its surrounding hex(+2) are revealed for its duration. (2)Barrages targeted one hex repeatedly for its duration. Effective against infantry and vehicle both, and has friendly fire.

1-A-c. Mark Jamison Sheppard

During Tiberian Dawn, he is on top of the GDI chain of command. During GDI missions, he is the one who orders the player from beginning to end. He performed the campaign even when GDI was cut budget because of Kane`s media manipulations.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Emergency support (1)Use this skill and select a unit from your loadout. Selected unit is built free of charge once, the skill resolves, then unit cost reverts to normal.

1-A-d. Ignatio Mobius

He is a genius scientist and tiberium researcher. Once he was fascinated by the possibilities of tiberium, later he works hard to make a cure for tiberium poisoning. In his process of tiberium researches, Dr. Mobius developed the Mobius Suit, which grants tiberium immunity and additional defence.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Mobius Suit (1)Using this skill to friendly infantry, totally heals and reinforces targeted squad, grants immunity against tiberium and grants resistance against tiberium-based weapons.

1-B. Tiberian Dawn, Brotherhood of Nod

1-B-a. Seth

A Nod commander who orders the player in early half of Nod missions. He is a competent one, but should not be fully trusted.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Cargo plane support (1)Only in Tiberian Dawn and Renegade, Nod does not produce their vehicle units in factory: instead, they get their vehicles via airfield on the battlefield, with cargo planes. Once you use this skill, you can directly deploy one of your factory unit on desired place of the map. If this deemed to be too powerful, you can also consider limiting the landing zone to missile pads. On that case, let’s say they are utilizing the pad as airfield.

Current commander skill, drill pod, is utilizing the drill pod which were not introduced before the death of Seth and hinders lore consistency. Drill Pod is more fitting on Marcion or Slavik.

1-B-b. Kane

The true leader of the Brotherhood of Nod. The prophet who rules over all other Nod commanders.

Recommended commander skill: He is more than a mere commander. Appearance as a commander is not recommended. However, if you want to keep him as a commander, his Obelisk of Light is fitting.

  1. Renegade (Time of Renegade is set on last stages of the first tiberium war)

2-A. Renegade, GDI

2-A-a. Adam Locke

GDI commander of Renegade. He is atypical one who is not bound by regulations. He commands the Dead Six team, which is quite skilled at special operations. His helicopter carrier makes it possible to deploy his forces deep behind enemy lines.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Behind enemy lines (1)Select this skill, then select an infantry of your loadout, then you can select the perimeter hexes - outer edge of the map. (this includes enemy side, sight not needed) Once you select target place, your selected infantry unit is deployed at the point.

2-A-b. Sydney Mobius

She is a daughter of Dr. Ignatio Mobius. Unlike her father, who is also a tiberium researcher, she is fascinated by the value of tiberium, as a weapon.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Tiberium ammunition (1)Grants a friendly unit, which uses materials as its projectile(bullets, shells, missiles, etc), an attack enhancement of additional damage and tiberium explosion. Enemies with tiberium immunity are not affected.

2-A-c. Nick Seymour Parker “Havoc”

He is a former member of the Dead Six team and a legendary war hero. He is proficient on various weapons and also knocked down so many opponents. Also, every time when Kane was announced to be dead, he refused letting their guard down, saying that Kane won`t be dead yet.

Recommended commander skill: (1) One man army (1)For its duration, enhances the power, toughness and speed. Identical with Jackson`s current commander skill. I don’t get it why they left Havoc when making a character like Jackson.

2-A-d. Logan Sheppard

He is a son of Mark Jamison Sheppard. He is a commando trainer and trained the legendary war hero “Havoc”.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Deploy commando (1)Commandos are basically same with GDI snipers, but these are single unit and not a squad unit. They can attack structures with explosive changes. Their sniping have a range of 2, while explosive attacks have a range of 1.

2-B. Renegade, Nod

2-B-a. Gideon Raveshaw

General Raveshaw is the first leader of the Black Hand of Nod. He supervised and protected Elena Petrova‘s project Regenesis, fought against Havoc.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Cargo plane support, (2) Deploy Black Hand Chameleon (1)Only in Tiberian Dawn and Renegade, Nod does not produce their vehicle units in factory: instead, they get their vehicles via airfield on the battlefield, with cargo planes. Once you use this skill, you can directly deploy one of your factory unit on desired place of the map. If this deemed to be too powerful, you can also consider limiting the landing zone to missile pads. On that case, let’s say they are utilizing the pad as airfield.

(2)Deploys a Black Hand Chameleon from Renegade(basically this is a Laser squad with stealth ability) on a target place in your sight.

2-B-b. Elena Petrova

Dr. Petrova is one of the best tiberium scientist. For the brotherhood of Nod, she performed the project Regenesis, which is about making super soldiers with tiberium infusion.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Divination (1)This skill infuses the completed mutagen chemical on a friendly infantry and mutates them away. Regardless of the number of existing squad members, this creates the Regenesis Templar, a single unit. (not squad) This Templar is immune to tiberium and healed by it. It uses a tiberium auto rifle, is an anti infantry and anti air unit, and its attack generates tiberium clouds.

  1. Tiberian sun

3-A. Tiberian sun GDI

3-A-a. James Solomon

For both the first and the second tiberium wars, he was in service as a commander. Currently he is staged at GDSS Philadelphia. He is eager to use the Ion Cannon on Nod forces.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Ion Cannon (1)Current skill fits him the best. no change is recommended.

3-A-b. Michael McNeil

He is a legendary commander who served in the Second Tiberium War. As a GDI`s cleaner, he is well known for his many successful missions and taking down Kane.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Deploy Kodiak, (2) Deploy EMP cannon (1)Deploys Kodiak gunship on a target location. (2)Deploys EMP cannon on a target location. Its health will be diminishing over time. This EMP cannon is a turret structure with a range of 3, shoots pulse that stuns vehicles and structures but harmless on infantry.

3-A-c. Tratos

Tratos is the leader of Forgotten, which is a gathering of tiberium mutated people. He regretted his handing over the Tacitus to the brotherhood of Nod, then allied with GDI.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Deploy Ghost Stalker (1)Deploys Ghost Stalker on a target location. This Ghost Stalker is a mutant unit, it is immune to tiberium and healed by it. His weapon is railgun and has Titan-like piercing effect. He is a anti-tank single infantry unit. (not squad)

3-A-d. Paul Cortez

Cortez is a commander who was commanding GDI during the Firestorm Crisis period. In order to destroy CABAL, He built a temporal alliance with Slavik while securing Tacitus.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Deploy Drop Pod (1)This Drop Pod is launched from the orbital command station. It is carrying a squad of elite infantrymen and also has a set of weapons to suppress its landing zone. Once you use this skill, you can choose one infantry unit from your loadout. After you select a unit to be dropped, you choose a target location, then the hex and its adjutant ones will be attacked with anti infantry and anti air attack, then the drop pod will be arrived on the center target. If the target location is occupied by enemy infantry, the pod will land on it and crush enemy, while protecting its passengers. If occupied by enemy vehicle or structure, then the pod will be landed on the closest safe hex(order of priority is enemy infantry, empty, friendly hex. If two or more locations are tied at top priority, then the one which is closest to your base is prioritized). After the drop pod is landed safe, selected infantry squad will be coming out of it, carrying +2 level of your unit level. Or, you can simply make it produce a Riflemen squad, which is +2 level of your commander level.

3-B. Tiberian Sun Nod

3-B-a. Oxanna Kristos

She is Nod`s Chief Propagandist. She is skilled at manipulating the media to help Kane.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Fanaticism (1)Current skill fits her the best. no change is recommended.

3-B-b. Anton Slavik

Slavik is leader of the Black Hand and he managed to preserve the brotherhood of Nod, during the Second Tiberium War and the Firestorm Crisis. He utilizes the Montauk, a subterranean mobile command center.

Recommended commander skill: (1) Drill pod, (2) Deploy Stealth Generator, (3) Deploy EMP cannon (1)Identical with Seth`s current commander skill. Deploys a flame trooper squad, using a drill pod which comes from underground. (2)Stealth Generator uses a stealth field which hides itself and any friendly forces in a range of 3. This generator loses its health over time. (3)Deploys EMP cannon on a target location. Its health will be diminishing over time. This EMP cannon is a turret structure with a range of 3, shoots pulse that stuns vehicles and structures but harmless on infantry.

3-B-c. CABAL

CABAL is Computer Assisted Biologically Augmented Lifeform. Unlike EVA of GDI, CABAL has his own will and goals.

Recommended commander skill: (1)Deploy Obelisk of Light, (2) Deploy Obelisk of Darkness, (3) Deploy Cyborg (1)Identical with Kane`s current commander skill. (2)Obelisk of Darkness is a anti air only turret structure of range 3. Otherwise same with the Obelisk of Light. (3)CABAL controls an army of cyborgs. Deploys cyborg at target location.

  1. For other characters and commander skills

I have covered up to Tiberian Sun(and Firestorm), and also have been thinking on Tiberium Wars and Tiberian Twilight. However, there are so many candidates for both commanders and commander skills, also these times are when they introduced C&C database on the games so I believe they will do pretty good by themselves.

Still, I have to talk about Jade: She was definitely a good attempt but her cosmetic issue prevents from getting more positive response. That color of Jade, comparing it with green of tiberium, is good. But, a shiner-a mutant who has tiberium on one’s body- is becoming a Nod commander, then handles catalyst missiles? This is unacceptable. On Korean communities, they are even saying that there are Forgottens in C&C Rivals, taking Jade as their evidence.

Actually, there is a way you can keep Jade’s characteristics while eliminating her seemingly inconsistent lores. Remove those tiberium crystals from her body. Instead, give her suspicious nail art which is in tiberium colors(green and blue), make her holding a flask of liquid tiberium, while one of her eye is reflecting green flash of light. Change her description to “She was on the exact time and place of lab accident in which her brother had to sever his arm. Jade was fascinated by this destructive nature of tiberium, but so many times she was stopped by GDI research ethics. At last she switched her loyalty to the brotherhood and developed catalyst missile, ordered by Kane”. By doing so, she becomes not only a subtle character who might be a mutant or not, also currently vacant role, “developer of catalyst missile” is filled in and lore gets enriched.

One thing more, many skills were introduced on Tiberium Wars and there is one particular skill that would be good to be added on C&C Rivals: the Seed Tiberium. For early games, it will work as indestructible obstacle against infantry. For late games, this will allow more potential to double harvester builds. Commanders should ponder over its placement: should I deploy it toward enemy to hinder enemy infantry, or put it on my side to save tib for late game punches?

  1. Why I wrote this

Playing C&C Rivals so far, I’ve found that they did a great job on revisiting existing C&C units, to meet this new hexagonal mobile RTS platform.

For example, they reduced rocket count of Orcas to two so its role of fast close air support is more prominent, Attack Bikes became a squad of three vehicles so they are fast and their first punch is powerful yet lacks sustained firepower while having combat endurance, Zone Troopers and Wolverines can execute anti-air attack with their handheld railguns and machine guns, and the change on Jumpjet infantry which was slow anti air, anti infantry scout unit, which is now fast anti vehicle unit.

On the other hand, recent addition of MG squad was rather disappointing. The game already has several MG-equivalent weapons (Confessor, Wolverine, Minigun turret which is deployed by Strongarm) and they are all capable of anti air and anti infantry, also have a range of 1. If they needed a unit with range of 2, which requires setup time and can’t do anti air but does anti infantry and anti tank, then they should’ve introduced a mortar unit or a grenade machine gun unit. Especially, making current MG into the latter does not require extensive working. Leave its modeling as it is, just changing name into GMG squad would even work, who knows?

With all these, I came to wonder if they are not changing or canceling their work-in-progress resources even when its role has changed during the development process. If so, how about posting in advance, for a field which were not announced of their development?

Therefore I made this list, which can be helpful if they decide to add any commanders or change any existing commanders.
