Pretty sure I read it end of 90s, so published 80s or 90s.
The main character has all these images of beautiful women from history and art, and builds them into a composite to create the "perfect" face. He then does plastic surgery on a woman to create that model. It works, she becomes super famous, but then something happens with the material he used and her face starts breaking down.
Specific details:
-
Her name began with M, there was a bit where he was picking the name and it talked about Marilyn and Mary and Mother and how we liked M-names
-
Mention of car paint used as nail polish
-
A monologue about how most people only have two(three?) and a half good angles, except her, and a Hollywood actor who is mentioned by name. (I want to say a Matt)
