Hello everyone, my name is Jazz Stewart and I am 1/3 of the indie game studio "Brand New Carousel". Today I am reaching out to you in an effort to hire a concept artist/character designer for our upcoming game, "Yokai Shuffle!".
Yokai Shuffle is Collectible Card Game that we plan to release on PC/Mac and mobile devices. The game will be a single player experience where you follow a silent protagonist in their journey to becoming the best shuffler in their region. Heavily influenced by games like Pokemon, Hearthstone, and Yu-gi-oh GX Duel academy (yes the one on gameboy advance >.>) we want to try our hand at a tried and true formula. In Yokai Shuffle! you will travel across a beautiful region based on the japanese countryside; battling, foiling an evil team, meeting interesting characters, and collecting materials (in our case cards) in order to become the best across the region.
We are looking for art that coincides with our vision for a game that is appealing to both kids and adults alike. We are looking for someone comfortable with drawing in an anime style not necessarily copying Pokemon's art direction but using it as a base to spring off of and really capture the light-hearted feel of the games atmosphere and narrative. If you think you would be interested in project like this then please send me some examples of your work at jazz.s

The current budget of the game is about $6,000 dollars per year. We have a good idea of the scope we want to go for, but we are not sure exactly how much time it’ll take in the long run. So after guesstimating a bit this is the closest number to what is reasonable at this point in the games development. Now what does this mean for the artist? Well, that budget is entirely made up of your pay. Once we have some artwork to show, we plan to host a kickstarter and use that money to fund other expenses (workers pay, voice actors, marketing, etc) Once we get to that stage we can renegotiate your pay but until then the salary for this position is $250 paid bi-weekly for your services. You will be paid through Paypal and will be paid upon completion of your bi-weekly tasks. Now if hired we will get started immediately and you will enter a probationary period. This is just to protect everyone. I’m sure some of you guys have been scammed out of art, We have been scammed as well. So in order to prevent that the first 2 weeks will be used so we can kinda get to know each other a little better and really see if we mesh well enough before committing to a long term partnership. So let me explain,
If hired, I will pay you upfront $50 for some character sketches while we work for 2 weeks nailing down the assigned character’s design. Once that design has been finalized and we are both comfortable with entering a long term partnership. You will receive the rest of your payment (200) and we will continue working until all character designs are finished.(at full pay).
Every week there will be a meeting which we will work together to find a time that works for everyone just so we can stay on track and really make sure everyone is on the same page. These will take place on Discord, im sure everyone has one at this point but if you don’t please make one as it is a quicker way to get in touch with me.
So to kinda recap the games current development schedule looks a little like this:
Once the protagonist’s Male, Female, and Androgynous designs, as well as the designs for the best friend and the rival (one of them) are finished we can look towards crowdfunding and perhaps increase the pay depending on how well that goes. Even if crowdfunding flops the game will still stay on schedule until its conclusion. There are currently 19 character designs needed and these are MAIN characters, smaller characters are inevitable and will be addressed when we get there but as of now the main focus is the 19 main characters.
Now let me say once more. This is a long term project, so please if you do not think you will be able to work on something like this for 1-3 years do not and I repeat DO NOT apply. I stated above that we’re looking for an ANIME art style, if we receive an email with art that isn’t in the style of ANIME that application will be thrown out. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me. My email is [jazz.stewart@Outlook.com](mailto:jazz.stewart@Outlook.com). All questions, concerns, and communication will be done there.
Thank you for reading my post and I look forward to hearing from you!
