My favourite scene in The Fellowship of the Ring (book)

I'm re-reading all three books after a very long time and I was once more blown away by the writing when Frodo sat on Amon Hen. We can see what Sauron is doing to the land. War is everywhere. And finally, when Frodo looks towards Mordor, it gets downright terrifying. Just by the description of Barad Dur we lose hope like Frodo. And what I did not remember is the way the Ring was urging him to let it be found and only because his will was strong he took it off at the last moment and realised once and for all that it should be destroyed and goes off to Mordor alone.

This scene makes both Frodo and us realise that there is no other way. The Ring must be destroyed. It corrupted Boromir and will corrupt everyone that tries to use it. And there is no stopping Sauron if it isn't destroyed.

It is a shame the movies didn't have the Seat of Seeing scene, but I understand that it's downright impossible to make this scene work in a movie. The movies were on par with the books in my opinion, both are some of the best works of art ever, but this scene was something that only the books could do, even if I think that the movies did improve a few aspects of the story.

Here is a part of this scene that blows my mind and I ranted about for so long

"Then at last his gaze was held: wall upon wall, battlement upon battlement, black, immeasurably strong, mountain of iron, gate of steel, tower of adamant, he saw it: Barad-dûr, Fortress of Sauron. All hope left him.

And suddenly he felt the Eye. There was an eye in the Dark Tower that did not sleep. He knew that it had become aware of his gaze. A fierce eager will was there. It leaped towards him; almost like a finger he felt it, searching for him. Very soon it would nail him down, know just exactly where he was. Amon Lhae it touched. It glanced upon Tol Brandir -- he threw himself from the seat, crouching, covering his head with his grey hood.."
