(Weeks 8 and 9 of the season for us. )
Week 2 of True Oktoberfest
Wednesday - Senior Gig. They brought out a German food truck which was pre-paid. But apparently, the seniors had their pick of several options, which was kind of a disaster in that the line was moving super slow. Two hours to feed 100 people slow. Not our issue, and the seniors enjoyed what we did.
Thursday - Cleveland, home of the Polka Hall of Fame. Truly a polka town, and the folks at this fancy brew-pub really appreciated what we did with the form, they 'got' us. That was an amazing validation for me anyhow.
Friday - A supermarket mid-day halfway between the prior nights gig and the evening gig, then drive like crazy through bad traffic and rain for our evening gig a few hours down the line in Grand Rapids. It was raining hard, but the people who came certainly enjoyed what we did.
Saturday - Supermarket in the morning, then a couple hours chill time before a very well attended show for an intense and joyful crowd. A good friend from High School and his wife made the trip, so bonus!
Sunday -Start driving early in order for University Dad to make an appearance at parents weekend. We play the Art Institute for the fourth year in a row, and light it on fire, just like we do. Made a nice stop at Wapakoneta to check out the tolerance museum - strongly recommended.
Miles this weekend: 950
Week 3 of True Oktoberfest
Friday - 8 hour drive to the AirBnb in Lexington, South Carolina.
Saturday - I go to the car at 8:30 and discover a flat tire. Drummer diagnoses the nail, and I hitch a ride to the neighboring Voldemort for supplies. We patch it ourselves and air it up, and make it to the gig with 45 minutes to set up, so tighter than I like, but no problem.
Afternoon gig goes great. Brewery with a nice tent, and people are in a good mood. Decent ziggy-zockies. We break down and load the van in a record 20 minutes.
Evening gig, we arrive with 80 minutes for set-up, so super-relaxed. Very nice buffet at this private club tavern. The crow seems to generally appreciate what we do, but it seems like many of them would be just as happy with a standard cover band. We still give them a solid show.
Sunday - On the road by 9ish for a two drive to a 1 PM start (factor extra time in case the tire patch acts up). Tire is fine, and we have plenty of time to set up, and drummer's childhood friend and friend's mother come to see us, so we've got somebody to chat up. Incredibly responsive Sunday afternoon crowd.
Then seven hours drive. Arrive my place by midnight, drummer still has a few hours of driving to do.
Miles this weekend: 1250
