The Department of Agriculture speaking on behalf of the Dixie delegation to the National Governors Association Assembly of State Arts Agencies applauds federal funding from the National Endowment of the Arts to support historical societies, museums, performances, and exhibitions across our state.
“Dixie is home to a dynamic arts scene, and this federal funding to support the arts further enriches and enlivens rural communities across the state, from the Manatee County Agricultural Museum in Palmetto, FL to the Rural Arts Experiment Station in Tiftin, GA. NEA funds support research, preserve cultural resources, strengthen museums, and bring artistic projects to life, adding tremendous value to the national and local economies while educating and empowering communities.
The NEA Art in Embassies private-public partnership has also opened a global audience to Dixie creative minds since 1953, and an exchange between artists at consulates across the South.
Despite the Bureau of Economic Analysis stating that the arts contribute more economic activity to the country than agriculture alone and these community wins for Dixie, the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget proposed by the Senate Foreign Relations Chairman /u/DexterAamo shamefully calls for the elimination of these critical NEA funds.
State officials will continue to fight tooth and nail in Washington to not only protect this funding, but strengthen and sustain it, keeping the arts alive so that Dixie’s creative and historic gems can be preserved and cherished for years to come,” said state Agriculture Secretary Carib.
