Hi everyone! First time posting here, so hopefully this is formatted OK.
I'm in the process of making a new Half-Elf Warlock (First time playing either), and I'm trying to nail down the backstory. I figured since it falls under character creation, you guys could help me out.
Here's the backstory I've thrown together for Pathik, my Half-Elf Warlock:
When Pathik was a young child, he never knew his mother. She was a human, and Pathik's father, Ailmar, was a high elf, a prominent figure amongst his clan. When Pathik was born, the council of elders banished his mother to a far-off land, lest the other elves look down upon Ailmar for siring a half-blood. Ailmar was allowed to look after Pathik, so long as he kept his origins a secret.
This is how Pathik came to be raised as a high elf. When he was young, keeping the ruse up was easy. Like most children, he hadn't developed the muscular frame of his human half. He studied hard to learn spellcasting, like all his friends, but he was always the slowest in the group. To make up for his lack of magical prowess, Pathik learned the art of deception, and sleight of hand. He tried to use these skills into making it seem like he was progressing, when really he was hopeless at the arcane arts.
When Pathik was 16, rumor began to spread that he might not be like the rest of the elves. This scared the council, and in their fear they decided to banish Pathik. Fearing that Ailmar might revolt, they told him that his son had gone out exploring, and had died.
In a fit of fury and despair, Ailmar set out to find his son, in whatever plane of existence he might now be residing. Eventually, his journey led him to Baator, known to some as The Nine Hells. He and the party of comerades he had gained throughout his journey ventured through the Nine hells, looking for Pathik. His search brought him to the Ninth Hell, the realm of Asmodeus, King of the Nine Hells. Though he was face to face with a god, Ailmar's pride as a high elf did not waiver, as he demanded to know where his son was. Asmodeus, not one to take orders from mortals, struck Ailmar down with a single, powerful word.
When Pathik learned of the fate of his father, through a letter sent by the council that had banished him, he devoted himself to avenging his father by killing Asmodeus.
Pathik tracked Asmodeus down, learning of his locations whenever he entered the material plane. Eventually, Pathik managed to confront Asmodeus. However, instead of attacking a god, Pathik decided to appeal to Asmodeus, asking to form a pact. He requested the power to strike down his enemies, giving whatever the fiendish Archdevil wanted in return. Intrigued, Asmodeus asked Pathik, a young boy hardly older than 17, who he could possibly want to kill so badly.
"You", Pathik replied. Asmodeus seemed confused by this, then intrigued.
"You really think you could become powerful enough to slay a god? Well, this could be interesting...."
And so, Pathik forged a pact with the very being he swore to destroy. One way or another, he would grow stronger. If he wasn't powerful enough to learn magic as the wizards did, then he would resort to the path of the Warlock. Then, he could finally get his revenge.
It's a bit long, but it covers all the important parts of his character. What do you guys think of this, both from a feasability and creativity standpoint? I'm not sure how reasonable it is to expect Asmodeus to make a pact with someone trying to kill him, but I imagine that's just what an Archdevil would do.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
