Hey, Xim here!~ I don't typically post theories all that much on the Five Nights Reddit, but I felt that, after substantial discussion had occurred in the "Fnaf smash discord", it would be wise to put everything into a comprehensive post. Most of this won't really be theory crafting as more so analysis, but the end will be speculation that ties into the new games.
Alright, now that that's out of the way, let's get started!
Let's start with the basics
the sister location was a remnant harvesting operation (for the purposes of obtaining remnant)
I'll give you a refresher from the bottom up on how this operates.
(map for reference, obtained via the breaker room)
(labeled map from extras menu, lacks minor features) https://fnaf-sister-location.fandom.com/wiki/Extras_Menu?file=UndergroundMap.png
On night 4 of Sister Location, we are introduced to the concept of "the scooper". Animatronics, after their shows, are placed on the rollers of a convener belt, in the instance of them "acting up". This "rolls them" into the designated scooping room, an area where workers are not permitted access to. Obviously, we get to see it regardless "thanks" to baby politely inviting us there on night 4, and later us being it's victim in night 5.
We see it's remnant in action as Micheal is bestowed with it's life binding properties in Sl CN's 8 bit cutscenes, as well as Henry's recording obtained via the data archive (known as the insanity ending)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N806YeAPgA&feature=share
So we've established the nature of the Scooper, but it begs the question of why, and how, the robots constantly contain the requirements for remnant to be harvested from them.
Simple!
the animatronics were explicitly designed for child abductions
If you haven't seen them already, take a glance at the blueprints for the four primary models from Sister Location
(the 4 primary blueprints for reference)
Circus Baby: https://fnaf-sister-location.fandom.com/wiki/Extras_Menu?file=Babyblueprint.png Ballora: https://fnaf-sister-location.fandom.com/wiki/Extras_Menu?file=Blueprint.png Funtime Freddy:https://fnaf-sister-location.fandom.com/wiki/Extras_Menu?file=FuntimeFreddySchematics.png Funtime Foxy: https://fnaf-sister-location.fandom.com/wiki/Extras_Menu?file=Funtimefoxyblueprint.png
Circus baby is the most obvious, as we see her in built "ice cream scooper" claim the life of Elizabeth Afton in the minigames, implied to be her by the final transmission by Henry as well as the various voice lines encountered in between Sister Location's nights, as well as used as a manipulation tool by Ennard in the fake ending, to attempt to coarse Micheal into opening the door for Ennard to enter.
Baby implies she refuses to operate properly by "playing pretend" because she dislikes "when something bad always happens" as what happened during her one show performance, described in detail. (However, this discussion pertains not to the intentions of the animatronics, but the purpose and design of the sister location as a whole, though I would be more then willing to discuss such matters in the comments.)
Ballora has a subroutine mentioned under tag B. in her blueprints, in relation to Baby's "directive 07" (which we can assume to be Babies in built child scalper) designed for "determent and misdirection", remotely activated upon baby's programing finding a sole child (note how Baby meticulously counts the children present in her description, she even doesn't understand "why" she does it, only that she does). Not to mention, this would line up with baby's blueprints, as she describes "stopping" similar to babies "emergency stop", though it is unsure if this would be the same feature described by her conversation.
The skills of the Funtime models, however, are far more explicit in their blueprints. Funtime Foxy has "voice sync", presumably the ability to mimic voices, but perhaps it could be viewed as more innocent, simply being for security (though considering the establishment of the scooper as a whole, this is likely not the case). It also has built in "scent release", a feature never mentioned or advertised, potentially making it a malicious subroutine. (Sedative?). Lastly, it also is synced to baby's "Directive 07", with its operation being "remote floor planting". Likely also to serve as a distraction or potential witness security. Recall that funtime foxy in particular is "motion activated."
The most blatent, however, is Funtime Freddy.
His features are listed as follows.
A. Proximity Sensor / Group Coordination (alright, a little odd, but perhaps it's just for maximum entertainment? maybe it isn't malicious.) B. Parental Tracking / 360 Degree pivot (Once again, kind of suspicious, but it can't be too bad right). C. Voice Mimic / Luring (alright, now you are just being obvious, William,) D. Storage Tank (Alright after the mimic, it can't be that bad, right?)
^ But take a look at the inside cavity of Funtime Freddy's blueprint. What do you see?
The outline of a *Child*.
This robot was specifically designed for the abduction of children. This, combined with their rabid pursuit of body heat as shown in the "maze" in FFPS, as seen in the aforementioned insanity ending, shows that, at the end of the day, these autonomous robots were designed with child abduction and/or harvesting in mind.
But I think people don't seem to give William the respective credit due with all the precautions taken with the facility. Because credit where credit is due;
Almost every precaution was taken in order to make the operation as effective, and untraceable as possible.
Starting with how the business was run itself. It is interesting to note that Afton Robotics ran the establishment on an LLC, otherwise known as a "Limited Liability Corporation".
For those of you unfamiliar with what this means, here is a comprehensive, yet simple description on the matter.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/l/llc.asp
Now to some of you, this may come off simply as standard business lingo, but this is actually quite important for a few reasons.
-
LLC based ventures are tax exempt. While the initial copyrights and information must be submitted to the government, this means that attempting to "trace" the organization via the tax system is nigh impossible.
-
The nature of an LLC gives the individuals involved legal liability exception; in other words, they are separated from their business for any legal responsibilities. This isn't particularly important now, but is important to the speculation section.
-
Lastly, in the case of any deaths, an LLC is absolved; knowing what fate befell William, his essential disappearance marked the immediate silent end of Circus Babies as an institution, not that this mattered considering the animatronis "breaking out of the circus" would leave the operation worthless regardless. While this in the end likely wasn't an intentional reason for this choice, it did likely play in favor for those investing in Afton Robotics, considering what took place there.
Beyond this, however, was how Circus Babies Entertainment And Rental Operated as an Establishment.
Hand unit informs us that the location itself sees no customers. Instead, the establishment "rents out" the robots to those who call in.
Full quote, italics on relevant information; "Allow me to fill this somewhat frightening silence with some lighthearted banter. Due to the massive success, and, even more so, the unfortunate closing of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, it was clear that the stage was set (no pun intended) for another contender in children's entertainment. Unlike most entertainment venues, our robotic entertainers are rented out for private parties during the day, and it's your job to get the robots back in proper working order before the following morning.".
Now consider the following. Lets say, your baby boy Timmy, who is 6, just had an awesome birthday party! He had 23 friends over, and just turned to the nice young age of 7!
However, one of his friends from class, Benny Barker, seems to have mysteriously vanished! When the parents come to pick up the kids, the little tyke simply won't show up! The first thing you obviously would do is look around, hoping he's hiding somewhere. Your next suspicion would be that he maybe sneaked his way onto one of the trucks. However, this results in several problems for finding poor Benny.
-
The trucks already left an hour ago, and since you requested them through forms, you don't actually know the adress to the location. You'd have no reason to follow the trucks back to where they came from.
-
Even if you did follow the trucks, based on the breaker room readout, we know the location is connected and/or underneath Fredbears family dinner. If you followed the trucks back, the only thing you'd run into would be a crummy worn down restaurant, no sign of the sleek robots with their fancy walking and splitting faceplates.
-
Lastly, it would be unlikely the employees would be able to help either; the two primary units designed for "capture", being Funtime Freddy and Baby, both use designs that conceal the bodies inside them. They would have no way of knowing there was a child on the brink of death inside one of the 350+ pound robots. By the time this took place, the robots would already be deep underground, undergoing repairs in the scooping room. Mutilating any evidence beyond repair.
Speaking of such unpleasant matters, the single biggest strength to hiding such evidence is the *automation**.
On night 4, we hear the musings of two on staff technicians.
"Employee 1 – Okay, bring her over. Forward. More. Mooooore, okay stop; Set her down, watch the step.
Employee 2– What happened to it this time? It just seems these things can’t go a day without breaking down.
Employee 1– Who knows. It’s always the same, man. Some kinda hardware malfunction.
Employee 2– Well like I have to be somewhere in 15 minutes, and this place gives me the creeps. Can we just get this over with?
Employee 1– It’s all automated; we don’t have to be here for it. Just get her on the rollers, and we can go."
Now obviously, the low wage workers would have ZERO interest in the vast abduction and murder of children. In fact, it would be reasonable to say that, if anyone caught on, the on hand reports by technicians would easily be the most damning of potential evidence of wrong doing.
So notice how things are handled in Circus Babies compared to the other five nights locations.
Freddy Fazbear's pizza, as seen in Five Nights at Freddy's 1 and 2, both receive direct information from employees working there. While it is clear that Phone Guy speaks with corporate reservation, he also is earnest to the degree that he properly warns you of danger. His responses are tailored to his personal experiences, .
Meanwhile, Circus Babies Entertainment and Rental's employee contact is done entirely through automated systems. Instructions are given through a voice customizable ai, which gives the players the bare standard advice, even when said advice has failed multiple previous employees in the past. If it weren't for the ai having several imperfections, the dangers the location present would be masked properly, resulting in the players death. (namely night 2, how the handunit's advice is discarded by a discerning player in favor of Circus Baby's on hand experience.).
Even paychecks are handled through handunit, which humorously implies that money is only one potential form of payment, resulting in the origin of the "exotic butters" meme.
I think this gets everything caught up, but it begs the question.
"Xim, this was supposed to contain "speculation!" This entire master post has just been a recap of stuff we already know!"
Speculation ahead
The reason I've compiled all this information so far from the games initial release, has to do with recent developments in the Five Nights Franchise. Namely the events of Help Wanted and potentially the upcoming AR game as well as "9".
When Sister Location released, it was quick for us to realize that this operation was under the eye of one William Afton, known in the franchise for his penchant for child murder. However, we know that William had not funded this operation alone; the introduction to the game involves William pitching his new masterpiece, Circus Baby, to a group of discerning potential investors. They mention concern over certain features, and Williams response is never heard.
We assumed the reason that William Afton managed to fund and construct such an elaborate system was because Fazbear Entertainment was "desperate", and were willing to overlook safety concerns in order to create a new big earner franchise, unaware they were aiding a serial killer create his dream machine.
However, what if we were wrong.
After going through such meticulous detail, it becomes evident that having this many deliberate decisions could not have been an accidental oversight. We didn't have any reason to put much concern into this.
Until recently.
In the events of Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, Fazbear entertainment attempts to rebrand their company in order to return to the scene in a big way. I won't be getting into Fazbear's attempt at dismissing previous "incidents" via elaborate virtual media schemes, but what comes to relevancy is the onset of "malhare".
The studio entrusted with the development of the virtual reality game was granted various animatronic parts in order to aid with the ai mapping of the characters, namely path-finding. The code somehow successfully takes hold without even requiring proper implementation, but it results in the creation of an anomaly. Once again, we assumed this was simply due to Fazbears attempting to rush development, but recent developments have suggested otherwise.
You see, there are these boxes (and stick with me here).
They can be found at the prize counter area, and were of minor importance. However, on closer inspection, it became clear that Steel Wool Studious (the team behind the game irl) modified the qr codes on the boxes to affect the game.
Texture dump on the aforementioned boxes
close up on one of the three template labels Beyond Fazbears sending the boxes (which should be obvious), it's the qr codes where we reach the meat of the matter.
Spooky, right?
Potentially combined with the codes for 9 and whatnot, it seems there are forces at play potentially attempting to bring ol' Willy back in some form?
But that would be preposterous, right? Do we have any evidence leading to support a claim like this.
We do.
The entirety of Sister Location supports the idea that William may not have been a "solo job".
Consider all the thought and planning that went into the Sister Location. Sure, William could have done the robotics aspect anonymously. But the business decisions? The method in which the operation was built from the ground up? How Afton Robotics itself was formed as an LLC? The building design? Even how employment was handled? Surely that wouldn't come down to just William. There logistically had to have been others who supported these decisions knowingly.
*And we have a scene that directly confirms this too~ >:) *
Recall this scene
Carefully notice the choice of words. Earlier we handwaved "concern" as to being rushed, but that statement was erroneous. Notice the choice of words at the end.
Mystery Board Member – There’s no doubting what you’ve achieved on a technical level. These are clearly state-of-the-art. There are just certain design choices that were made for these robots that we don’t fully understand. We were hoping that you could shed some light on those.
William Afton – She can dance, she can sing! She’s equipped with a built-in helium tank for inflating balloons right at her fingertips. She can take song requests. She can even dispense ice-cream.
Mystery Board Member – With all due respect, those aren’t the design choices we were curious about, Mr Afton.
The discussion was not from the point of concern, it was curiosity.
They state this as if it's some sort of obvious fact. As if they are avoiding addressing the elephant in the room. Recall that if they were aware of featured outside of what he had stated before (which were, indeed, state of the art). This means they would have had access to the blueprints. If they were aware of such design choices, it would be obvious what the intentions of these robots were. In that case, their cooperation couldn't have been simple negligence. They were in on it. What for? Perhaps remnant? I can't entirely say, that would be too speculative, though it would make sense. While perhaps non conventional to it's standard tropes, remnant would be considered some form of "eternal elixir". Can't say that for certain though.
Regardless, there is one last key component that proves this cooperation extended past "wanting to open a new pizza place".
Circus Babies Pizza World.
“ Did you know that I was on stage once? It wasn’t for very long, only one day. What a wonderful day, though. I was in a small room with balloons and a few tables. No-one sat at the tables, though, but children would run in and out. Some where afraid of me, others enjoyed my songs. Music was always coming from somewhere else down the hall. I would always count the children, I’m not sure why. I was always acutely aware of how many there were in the room with me. Two, then three, then two, then three, then four, then two, then none. They usually played together in groups of two or three. I was covered in glitter. I smelled like birthday cake. There were two, then three, then five, then four. I can do something special, did you know that? I can make ice cream, although I only did it once. There were four, then three, then two, then one. Something happened when there was one. A little girl, standing by herself. I was no longer myself. And I stopped singing. My stomach opened and there was ice cream. I couldn’t move at least, not until she stepped closer. There was screaming for a moment, but only for a moment. Then other children rushed in again, but they couldn’t hear her over the sounds of their own excitement. I still hear her sometimes. Why did that happen? “
Notice the behavior of the children. No one sat at the tables, and there was never more then 4 present at a time. It was clear this was some sort of simulation, a test run of the character. But what leads to show proper intention was shown that the funtimes murder tendencies were encouraged, and not some silly oversight?
What happened after the circus baby incident?
Well, recall the scott games teasers!
"In other news, the grand opening of Circus Baby's pizza has been cancelled due to reported gas leaks in the building. Sources close to the establishment question the report, saying that strange activity around the area at night suggest something else is to blame.
One local is quoted as saying "Everything just stopped. There was so much excitement built around this place opening and then they just stopped talking about it. There was only a handful of people that ever got a look at the inside, kids from here and there, making sure everything works right, you know. I guess they weren't quite as ready as they thought they were."
A tenant from across the street claims to have witnessed a large group of cars surrounding the building during the night and large pieces of equipment being taken out of the building under tarps. A few weeks later, the building was for sale."
There is no comment yet from the local entrepreneur who financed the venture.
THIS is the nail in the coffin.
NOT ONLY WAS THE CIRCUS BABY ANIMATRONIC REUSED AFTER SUCH A TRAGEDY, BUT CIRCUS BABIES PIZZA WORLD DISPLAYED THE SAME LEVEL OF MAXIMUM SECRECY REGARDING HOW IT HANDLED ITS AFFAIRS.
The people we hear in the intro weren't unwilling inverters, dooped by a sociopath. They were co-conspirators.
And they might still be out there.
