Da Orks is da biggest 'an strongest race in da 'ole uv da 'ooniverse, and anyone 'oo says otherwise is a right git an' probably just jealous.

Orkses is made for fightin', Orkses is kunnin, Orkses is brutal, an' most importantly, dere's loads 'an loads 'uv 'em.

Dere's already one uv dese "Respekk Thredds" out dere for da Boyz, but that git left sum fings out, so I'm gonna do it up again proppa Orky.

Diss thredd is gonna focus mostly on induhvidyoull Orks 'an wut the boyz can do when dey really gets goin'.

Physiology:

• Based on multiple descriptions of Orkoid physiology, Orks themselves are actually a hybrid of some original animal organism and a symbiotic fungus. 1,^XE 2^WtO Because of this, industrial grade weedkiller is like acid to them,^XE and can prevent them from producing fertile spores.

• Orks reproduce by passively shedding spores which take root in the ground and grow into new Greenskins. They even able to release spores after death, and the spores themselves can remain dormant and determine what to grow into depending on the environment.^XE

• Orks are able to survive in almost any environment, no matter how inhospitable^CO7E

• Orks’ bodies feature numerous redundant organs^XE and they can survive even with most of their body masses missing. For example, Orks are able to survive for an extended period of time as a severed head, and will make a full recovery so long as they’re sewn back onto a body.^EWG Here’s a page from a comic showing off a headless Ork’s resilience.^BQ It’s even implied that an Ork is able to function to some degree without a brain.^EWG

• Orks heal much faster than ‘umies and other races, take to transplants very easily, and can survive without one or more major organs.^DUB It is further specified that even major wounds will be healed over in a matter of hours.^CO3E

• Even an Ork who has been completely dismembered can be stitched back up and survive, and the only way to be 100% sure an Ork won’t come back is to burn them to ash^CO7E

• An Ork will continue to fight for a time even after they are clinically dead^CO7E Another example.^CO8E

• Orks shed their teeth multiple times a year, and regrow them fairly quickly.^DUB

• Orks feel a limited amount of pain, are highly resistant to disease, and don’t go into shock from injuries the way a human might.^DUB

• Orks are said to possess a nervous system very resilient to electric shocks, and are able to bear strains that would obliterate the body of a human being or Eldar^EWG

• Orks are considerably more resistant to extreme temperatures than humans (diggas).^DN

• Orks are naturally resistant to radiation^DUB

• Orks continue to grow throughout their entire lives, and undergo accelerated periods of growth which correlate to them ascending the social ladder.^XE A human prisoner observes an Ork Nob, Skyva, undergo two such growth spurts--first when he is promoted to a favoured captain of the Warboss, and second^B&T when he becomes the new Warboss himself. A fully grown Warboss stands around 10 feet tall and is broader than an armoured space marine.^CO7E

• Ork teeth are sharp enough to cut through sheets of steel, and can be crushed into a powder that speeds up Orks’ natural regeneration.^DUB

• Orks possess a keen sense of smell that allows them to detect the age and status of other Orks, as well as to detect other greenskins from several miles away^CO3E

• Orks possess a racial memory coded into their genes, giving them an instinctual understanding of technology, warfare, medicine, and whatever else their clan might need. It is theorized that dormant racial memory can be drawn out by certain events.^XE Another example^DUB of Orkish genetic memory being described.

• Even Orks who have been completely cut off from any technological infrastructure and reverted to a “feral” state will rediscover advanced technology and take to the stars after a time.^CO8E

The WAAAAAAAGH!!: Greenskins have an innate psychic connection to the Warp,^EWG and although most of them can’t make use of it at will, it manifests in a number of unconscious ways to make reality “correct” itself to match what Orks expect of it. The more Orks gathered in one place, the stronger Waaaaagh energy becomes. Here^XE is a detailed review of the Waaagh phenomenon as recorded by a Magos Biologis researcher.

• The built up psychic energy of a mob of Madboyz (greenskins considered mentally unhinged even by Ork standards) can sometimes manifest as an uncontrollable antigravity field, levitating any objects and weapons caught in it and pulling a Neo on any incoming bullets^EWG

• According to the Anzion Theorem of Orkoid Mechamorphic Resonant Kinetics, Ork technology works largely because they expect it to work--with the fact that Ork vehicles painted red move faster than the exact same vehicles with any other paint job based on common acceptance among Ork-kind that red is a fast colour.^CO3E

• Many pieces of Ork tech only function when in the presence of Orks, lending credence to the idea that Waaagh energy is what keeps their ramshackle devices intact.^WD

• The tools of a famous Mekboy perform superior repair jobs than normal tools simply because Orks believe they do^CO8E

• An Ork pilot’s plane keeps flying despite having no wings left.^DS

• Because of the nascent psychic field all Orks are connected to, attempting to read their minds is inadvisable. 1, 2, 3^BQ

Strength:

• An Ork can easily tear out a man’s throat with their fingers^CO7E

• Even a particularly weedy Ork with degenerated muscles can tear a man limb from limb^CO3E

• Uzgob, an Ork pilot, drags himself and his smartboy out of the sinking wreckage of his plane, then digs his fingers into the metal hull of an ork battleship and clambers onto the deck while carrying him. 1, 2^DS

• An Ork effortlessly lifts a human with one hand^B&T

• Skyva, a Nob, drags a large metal cage with a man inside of it behind him by a chain^B&T

• An Ork impales two guardsmen on a pike and hefts it with their bodies still attatched^B&T

• A casual backhand from an Ork sends a human flying^B&T

• Ork Madboyz are stated to be able to tear apart an infantry squad with their bare hands^CO7E

• An Ork Painboy with a hammer easily subdues a boar that had previously slaughtered three Gretchin. In the same book, Ork boars are described as being particularly hardy and nearly synonymous with toughness in Ork kultur.^EWG

• An Ork effortlessly lops off the top of a man’s skull with one axe swing^B&T

• An Ork knocks off the head of one Guardsman and severs the hand of another with one swing of his weapon^B&T

• Ork Warbosses are described as being able to “twist off” enemy heads.^CO8E

• Ork Madboyz in battle rage are described as being strong enough to bend enemy weapons with their bare hands^EWG

• An Ork kicks his way out from a pile of metal scrap from a destroyed Gargant.^B&T

• Stormboyz, who are the Ork equivalent to Assault Marines, regularly walk around carrying large rockets strapped to their backs

• Orks frequently carry weapons as big or bigger than they are

• A whelp (a young Ork) lifts a boulder and uses it as a club.^WtO

• Orks tend to search for the biggest boulders they can find in an area and roll them back to camp to make their huts out of.^WtO

• An Ork picks up a tree trunk and carries it into his ship.^WtO

• An Ork of the Goff clan drove a treetrunk into the ground like a stake to mark their camp’s communal cesspit^EWG

• One Ork breaks another’s power klaw in half and wields it as a weapon.^CO7E

• An Ork tears off a space marine’s arm^DoWIII

• The Ork Warboss Garshul blocks a Space Marine’s swing with his axe and matches his strength^BQ

• Even after being impaled on a sword, an Ork nearly kills a Space Marine in its death throes^BQ

• Gorkers--Ork warriors who pledge themselves to the god Gork--are described as being able to snap other Orks in half^DUB

• An Ork hitting a man’s head with a club turns it to paste^B&T

• Grukk, Ork Warboss, punches a helmeted space marine’s head clean off^CO7E

• An Ork crushes a helmeted space marine’s head with a stomp^RE

• An Ork wielding an ‘uge choppa is stated to turn almost any opponent into “splutchy pancakes” in one swing provided it connects.^DR

• An Ork warboss turns a space marine to paste with an axe^RE

• Killboy, an Ork pilot, clings to the side of a fighter plane in-flight then smashes open its windshield.^DS A blueprint of the same model of plane given in the same comic described the glass as “toughened”^DS and claims Ork pilots regularly smash out their own windshields with their bare hands.

• Bodrukk, a Speed Freek, pushes his crashed buggy back from the desert into town^DUB

• Badthug, an Ork warboss, hurls another Ork an impressive distance. 1, 2^DS

• Boss Zagstruk is implied to have once knocked out a Squiggoth by pummeling it.^CO7E Squiggoths are massive variants of Squigs comparable to a rhino or an elephant. Some Squiggoths have been portrayed taking direct krak grenades to the face^RoKN with nothing but a few scars to show for it.

• Two brawling Orks tore apart an entire fort^CO7E

Durability:

• Orks are described as being very resilient, and able to take punishment that would seriously maim or kill a human being^EWG

• Ork skin is described as being “leather tough” and they can take blows to the head that would cave in an ‘umie’s skull^CO7E

• An Ork takes direct hit to the face from a human with a steel pipe and doesn’t even flinch^B&T

• An Ork warboss named Nuzzgrond gets clubbed over the head with a boulder and shrugs it off^WtO

• An Ork survives being backhanded through a brick wall^CO7E

• An Ork has a sharpened bone knife rammed into his eye up to the hilt and is only annoyed. 1, 2^B&T

• An Ork loses an arm in battle and carries on in only mild discomfort. He also recalls a different Ork being shot in the chest and surviving.^DUB

• An armoured Ork gets shot in the chest six times and shrugs it off^DC

• An Ork Warboss has his heart ripped out and lives,^DQ though he was possessed by a daemon at the time.

• An Ork named Talka claims that a pair of stikkbombz (Ork grenades) won’t harm an Ork while a mob of Grots will get blown away by them. True to his word, they lob two at his mate who’s being piled on by Grots, and he comes out fine. Bonus durability feat from Bozgat not even noticing he’d been shot at first and merely commenting that it “stings”^PoW

• An Ork unflinchingly ignores being clipped by a lasgun blast in the shoulder.^B&T Here is a description of what effect lasfire usually has on flesh.^CR6E

• An Ork is shot multiple times during combat and shrugs it off^DUB

• An Ork can walk through enemy fire and endure bullets bouncing off their skin.^DN

• An Ork takes a headshot from a Space Marine Scout’s sniper rifle and gets right back up^RoKN

• An Ork Warboss laughs off multiple bolter rounds to the chest. Although he was possessed by a daemon at the time, the comic gives no indication he was strengthened at all from the experience, and in fact, the daemon himself claims his host body has weakened.^BQ

• An Ork gets the top of his head caught in a lascannon blast powerful enough to blow a hole in a wall^WtO

• Before Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka became a warboss, he survived a headshot from a bolter that destroyed 30% of his skull^EWG

• A group of Orks are thrown back by the shockwave of three space marine drop pods undergoing orbital reentry and landing nearly on top of them, then get back up seemingly unharmed.^DoW

• A background Ork gets caught in a jet of lava and appears to be scorched, but alive. 1, 2^DS

• Killboy, an Ork pilot, crashes his plane in a firey explosion. He shows up later again just fine and apparently unharmed.^DS

• Killboy does it again and once more, shows up again just fine claiming only minor wounds.^DS

• A Nob named Skyva survives being inside a Gargant as it explodes, with the detonation point being almost point-blank. His body also shielded a human he was carrying. 1, 2, 3^B&T

• Killboy gets dropped out of a plane’s bomb doors mid-flight, and survives both the fall and being chewed on by rabid squigs. 1, 2

• Orks can survive with surgical tools lodged inside their brains, suffering no major lasting consequences^DUB

• Orks from clans like the White Spiders and Snakebites are inoculated against poisons from an early age. In this example, in this instance, an Ork survives multiple bites from tomb spiders, stated to be have venom that is “the deadliest in the universe” where a human dies almost instantly.^WtO

Agility:

• An Ork pivots to avoid a chop to the neck from a space marine chapter master at the last second, then catches the sword in his hand before the marine can attack again^CO7E

• An Ork ducks under a space marine’s chainsword swing^RE

• An Ork dodges a power staff swung by a space marine^RE

• Ork Madboys are described as possessing “lightning reactions” and can successfully play chicken with enemy Fast Attack vehicles 50% of the time^EWG

• An Ork ducks to avoid a burst of automatic fire^DUB

• An Ork evades most of the shots from three humans with lasguns^B&T

• Orks are fast enough to block bullets by using Grots as shields^CO8E

• A fleeing Ork evades artillery fire from an Imperial Titan^CO2E

• An Ork pilot launches himself high up out of the cockpit of his plane, then uses a grappling hook to hitch a ride on a passing one. 1, 2^DS
  This isn’t likely to have been aided by any emergency ejection system, as none is listed in the diagram of the model of plane he was flying^DS. Plus it’d be downright unorky.

• Two Orks run out of the range of a large explosion in the time it takes a missile to fall down a hole. 1, 2^DS

Skill:

Although Orks aren’t well known for their accuracy, some have shown themselves to be decent enough shots when needed.

• Shooting out a chain holding up a missile.^DS

• Shooting a small grot-cranked klaxon from a portaloo on the other side of camp. 1, 2^DS

Orks are also far more cunning than they’re often given credit for, and don’t always attack as a massed horde.

• Orks employ stealth tactics to infiltrate an Imperial base and open the gates from the inside.^CO3E

• Orks use a collapsing front strategy to lure Tau forces into a pincer ambush.^CO4E

Orks have a particular knack for technology, and are able to perform often supernatural feats of engineering with extremely limited supplies.

• All Orks have enough of an instinctual understanding of engineering to put together their own firearms.^RoKN

• Ork Mekboyz are able to perform extensive repairs with only a wrench and a sack of nails^CO8E

Equipment:

Power Klaw:

• A Warboss lifts the armoured corpse of a Space Marine with his power klaw, then throws it.^RoKV

• The power klaw of the Nob Grimbadd easily lifts a Space Marine off the ground, crushing his armour, and seems to have already crushed and dismembered at least two more^B&T

• A swipe of Boss Volkrag’s power klaw knocks three Space Marines off their feet at once^CO4E

• Boss Gorgutz’s klaw turns a Nob into chunky salsa^DoWIII

• Boss Grimskull’s klaw smashes through a section of wall^SM

• A backhand from Warboss Krugg sends another Ork crashing through a mudbrick wall^CO7E

• Boss Gutrak Dethhead, an Ork warboss armed with a Power Klaw, was able to tear the leader of an army of robotic xenos in half.^CO7E The enemies he was fighting were most likely Necrons, making their commander a Necron Lord who are shown to tower over even space marines in official art.

• The infamous Tuska Daemon Killa went one on one with a “towering” daemon who had previously bested a large number of Nob warriors and killed it with his power klaw.^CO4E

• Power klaws are described as being able to “crush buggies [and] buildings”.^DUB Ork warbuggies are large armoured vehicles comparable to a military jeep.

• Gutrak, a Warboss armed with a power klaw, once forced open a sealed blast door that was “as high as a Gargant and twice as wide”, very likely using his klaw to do so.^CO6E Gargants are the largest war machines ever constructed by Ork-kind, and on average stand at a height comparable to a four-storey building.

• Ork Prosthetics can be fitted with a grappling hook strong enough to punch through the hull of a fighter plane^DS Another example of a grappling feature^DoWIII on a power klaw.

Shoota:

• Shootas are stated to punch “fist sized holes” through their targets^DHEW

• A few shots from a shoota dismembers several guardsmen.^B&T

• A spray of fire from an Ork handgun turns a tree into splinters.^WtO The text calls it a “bolter”, but the picture that accompanies shows a very Orky weapon and the book it’s from was published at a time when GW used bolter as a generic term for guns in the setting.

• Bozgat, a Mekboy, claims his shoota can punch a hole clean through a Deff Dread.^PoW For context, a Deff Dread is an Ork mecha comparable to a Space Marine Dreadnought.
