Respect Kakine Teitoku

Kakine Teitoku is the 2nd ranked out of 7 Level 5 espers in Academy City, and leader of the underground organization known as SCHOOL. He has a rivalry with the #1 Level 5 Accelerator and wants to kill him to obtain his rank and put himself in a position to negotiate with Academy City's Superintendent, Aleister Crowley.

Terminology

Ability

Kakine's ability allows him to create a substance known as Dark Matter (NOT the dark matter that hypothetically exists in real life)

• Dark Matter doesn’t exist anywhere in the universe and is made of elementary particles that don’t exist anywhere in the universe.

• Dark Matter and anything that comes into contact with it fundamentally ignores physics

• Dark Matter and everything it touches is infused with over 25,000 different types of energy

Pre-Revival

Kakine and SCHOOL fight other Academy City underground organizations in a bloody Battle Royale to gain access to sensitive information and eventually confront the Superintendent himself.

General:

• Defeats the #4 Level 5 Mugino Shizuri in a brief skirmish and forces her to flee with minor injuries

• Easily defeats her again

• Uses Dark Matter wings to diffract sunlight to the point where it can burn someone to death. Most notably, bypasses the #1 Level 5 Accelerator's reflection

• Uses an invisible pressure to pin someone down

• Description of an "unprecedented power" awakening within Kakine. Featless because he is seemingly killed right after this.

Strength:

• Casually destroys the arms of a guy wearing anti-esper body armor

• Causes explosions during his second skirmish with Mugino that shakes a building

• Causes an explosion that destroys a bench and blows Kinuhata 10 meters away, breaking through a wall and severely injuring her

  • Kinuhata's passive ability lets her mostly shrug off multiple rounds from a juiced up machine gun
  • Description of said gun

• (Also Durability) Clash with Accelerator causes a shockwave that knocks down bystanders and shatters windows. It also knocks Kakine through a building but he no-sells all of this

• Cuts a building in half with 20 meter long Dark Matter wings

• Fight with Accelerator shakes buildings and uproots street signs

• (Also Speed, Durability) Reacts to and deflects pressure waves from gravel launched at speeds faster than a Railgun, the resulting shockwaves uproot signs

  • Railgun in this context is the name of #3 Level 5 Misaka Mikoto's signature attack, which travels at Mach 3.

Durability:

• (Also Strength) No-sells an attack from nanomachines that attack on a cellular level, then scatters them with an explosion that shatters the windows of nearby buildings

• No-sells a heavy table thrown at him

• Tanks an ATM and some debris thrown at him by Accelerator

• Stops an attack from Accelerator

• Survives being stabbed with his own wings

• Survives being crushed into the ground by Black Wings Accelerator, albeit losing an arm

Speed:

• Reacts to and dodges a high speed hurricane from Accelerator

• Clashes with Accelerator at supersonic speeds

Intelligence

• (Also Strength) Uses wind stirred up by his Dark Matter wings to analyze Accelerator's reflection. This allows him to bypass Accelerator's Reflection again, blowing Accelerator back over 10 meters into a tree and snapping its trunk

• Analyzing Accelerator's Reflection and bypassing it once more

Equipment:

• The Tweezers, which are used for grabbing and analyzing subatomic particles

  • Can be worn as a glove
  • Can extract sensitive information stored as quantum signals inside nanomachines

Equ.DarkMatter

Following his supposed death by Accelerator's hands near the end of Battle Royale, Kakine's brain was salvaged from what little remained of his body and used to produce a number of Dark Matter superweapons for Academy City's underworld. However, Equ.DarkMatter can still be influenced by Kakine's will

Mask

• Description

• (Durability, Speed) Reacts fast enough to protect its wearer from rifle bullets being fired on full auto, and no-sells all of them

• (Speed) Blitzes Hamazura from dozens of meters away

• (Strength) Knocks Hamazura back several meters. Despite tasting blood, Hamazura remarks that he got off easy because he was still able to shout in pain

• (Strength) Tears through trees and the ground

• (Strength) Tears through trees again. Hamazura is hit by one of the falling trees but considers it better than being struck by the mask's attack itself

• A black-ops assassin wearing the mask can most likely defeat a tank

• (Durability) Stated to be capable of deflecting attacks from a weakened Mugino

Leg Implant

• Description

• (Speed, Strength) Allows the wielder to kick at supersonic speed

Arm Implant: Skyfish

• Description

• (Strength, Accuracy) Can throw metal nails with enough force and accuracy to pierce through cargo containers from a kilometer away

• (Speed) Can fire 300 metal nails in the time it would take someone with superhuman speed to navigate down a pile of cargo containers

• (Strength) Throws a metal nail with enough force to destroy Kihara Kagun's full-face helmet and utterly decimate his head

  • Kagun only survives because of his magic that nullifies fatal blows

Arm Implant: Yeti

• Description

• (Strength) Fatally crushes Kihara Kagun and several cargo containers

Arm Implant: Little Gray

• Description

• Allows the wielder to use a Level 2 or 3 esper power that can cause explosions and strip flesh from bone

Post-Revival

In the New Testament sequel to the original Index series, Kakine figures out how to construct a new body made of Dark Matter. His ability itself has also evolved, with him and the things he creates all being part of a massive Dark Matter system/network. Set free by scientists to suppress a threat to Academy City, he also pursues his personal goal of getting revenge on Accelerator.

General:

• Covers a lab the size of a football field with Dark Matter

• Creates far more than 300 Dark Matter constructs

  • The constructs can all use the Dark Matter ability as well, and possibly other abilities in the future
  • Besides copies of himself, he has created rhinoceros beetles, dragonflies, and imitations of the Sisters, who are clones of Misaka Mikoto

• Can replay an event that happened in the past by using Dark Matter to analyze the place where it happened

• Can transform and freely manipulate his own body

• The Dark Matter network doesn't depend on the main body/consciousness

• Absorbs a large system of computers and other electronics into the Dark Matter network

Longevity/Immortality:

• Kakine essentially becomes one with Dark Matter and vice versa, obtaining a form of immortality

• He is neither living nor dead, and his existence is similar to a Mobius Strip. His brain creates Dark Matter, which can create more copies of his brain, all of which can create more Dark Matter, etc

• Compares himself to infinity

• The Dark Matter spreads exponentially, much faster than both Mugino and Accelerator together can destroy it

• More description of his immortality

Strength:

• Dark Matter wings grow large enough to encompass an island in a matter of seconds. Kakine was presumably going to take offensive action against it and/or the people on it if he hadn't been interrupted

Durability:

• Unaffected by losing the upper half of his body, and proceeds to recreate it

• Unaffected by losing his remaining organs from his flesh and blood body, nor does he need them anymore

• Accelerator's attempt to directly affect the Dark Matter system by manipulating its electrical signals fails

• Survives being struck by a cyborg copying Accelerator's Black Wing form

Speed:

• Fights at supersonic speed

Intelligence:

• Abuses Accelerator's psychological trauma to mentally destabilize him to the point where his powers stop working
  

Dark Matter Constructs:

Rhinoceros Beetles

• Description

• Can produce a voice by vibrating its wings

• (Strength) Fires a shell that can destroy a supporting pillar of a subway tunnel

• (Strength) Shockwaves from firing the shells can fill an enclosed space and destroy human organs

• Can generate shockwaves by vibrating its wings

• (Durability) Can regenerate as long as it's connected to the Dark Matter network

• Equipped with antenna used for stalking targets

• Can scale walls and jump between buildings

• (Strength, Durability) Described as having the specs of a tank and able to detect enemies from 5km away

• (Durability) Can redirect external damage towards its internal organs

• (Durability) Can no-sell a tank blast and instantly regenerate from a battleship’s

• (Strength) Tackles a helicopter out of the sky

Dragonfly

• 5m long dragonfly used for reconnaissance

Sisters

• Description

• (Speed) Moves as fast as a motorcycle and quickly enough to kick off walls and pillars

• (Strength) Strong enough to tear apart a human with their bare hands

• (Durability) Unaffected by being fatally pierced

Sample Shoggoth

Discolored Dark Matter that lacks Kakine's will and can thus be completely controlled by a third party. Infects Patricia Birdway and is later tamed by Kihara Yuuitsu.

Description

General:

• Can be parasitic in nature if untamed, dissolving the fat in its host body

• As a parasite, can attack perceived threats to itself regardless of the host's will

• Allows the user to move along building walls

• Allows the user to fly by acting as a paraglider

Strength:

• Digs through the ground, around a target, and back up to the surface to ambush said target from behind

• Bites into Kamijou's shoulder, causing him to scream in pain

Durability:

• Protects Yuuitsu from a fall of several dozen meters

Healing:

• Stitches someone else's severed hand onto Yuuitsu's wrist in seconds with no medical complications

• Mends severe injuries from an attack that can destroy multiple buildings and likely a portion of a city
