So, what's one of the foundation plans for an artist that can literally decide your entire style? Something that is so pivotal that if you don't have it, you'll eventually be dead in the water with no direction to go in. That's right, knowing what you want to do in life. Aside from my joking manor I am quite serious about this problem though, I am an artist that is still learning (obviously) and I feel like I really need to crack down on what I want to do in the art world to continue developing my style into something a bit more professional. Yet I'm stuck, I have literally no idea what I want to do. A concept artist sounds fun, but so does a comic artist or a poster designer and so on. I have no idea what direction I want to take with my art and I feel like that's really crippling it to a point where I feel like I can't improve anymore until I find out what direction I want to take. I.E. if I chose a more realistic style that took a long time to master but then decided I wanted to try out drawing a manga in a more Japanese-stylistic way. Then I'll just be stuck going between styles never doing anything major with my art and being "sort of good" of many things but not being good enough with anything for anyone to actually consider me as a serious candidate or even a serious contender in the art world. I am dead serious with my art, I want to improve, whatever means necessary. Hell, I only have the two or three friends and nothing to do besides a part time job to begin with, sitting at a desk for 7 hours a day drawing or painting is most definitely not out of the realm of possibility at all (though, again, I don't get a whole lot done in that time because I'm so confused about my own style). I want to continue my art progress, I want to be a serious contender in the art world, I want this to be my career, I do not care about money, I do care about my happiness and expression. All reasons that I would deeply appreciate some advice from an artist (or anyone else for that matter) who has been through a similar struggle and has some kind of tip, a job fitting the style I have now, anything to help me nail down what I want to do so that I can evolve and really start cracking down on my skills and learning some discipline. Basically, I need something to shoot for so that I don't feel like my pursuits are pointless because at this point, that's how I feel; my art is empty and has no "soul" in it because I don't know what it should be, help.
