Some of you may already know if you saw my recent post, but I got a SNES along with A Link to the Past. I finished the game last night, and it was a lot of fun!
The game holds up very well. It's aged better than pretty much all of the older Zelda games. Besides the pretty rough translation of the game, I don't think anything about the game feels particularly dated. The gameplay is still very enjoyable. I didn't find many of the dungeons to be particularly special (I feel like Link's Awakening was the first game in the series to really nail the concept of dungeons), but some of them stood out quite a bit. Skull Woods was especially unique, with the dungeon requiring you to enter it from multiple entrance points (Not really sure if this idea was ever used again in later games). Regardless, none of the dungeons felt poorly designed or not fun. Most of the bosses were pretty good too.
The art style is also very timeless. The sprite artwork is incredibly colourful and eye-catching. I'd say that it has one of the best art styles in the entire series, up there with Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild.
It's also amazing just how important this game was to the series. There are so many aspects central to the series, such as Zelda lore, gameplay elements and musical themes that originated from this game. Future entries may have expanded on them a lot more, but it's still really impressive what this game did for the franchise!
Overall I really, really liked this game. Definitely a top 5 Zelda game for me! I'm planning to play A Link Between Worlds very soon as well.
MY RATING: 9/10
