We had a guy call the other day to book an appointment for his pitbull. He said that his dog was sent home from Pe//tsm//art because he was apparently too scared for the water. I asked what that meant and he said that THEY said his dog became aggressive. I told him that if they couldn’t do it there then we probably can’t either since they can use muzzles and we can’t but we’d give it a try anyway as long as he’s prepared to possibly have to pick his wet dog up.
He said it was okay and he was grateful for the chance.
I forgot that Smetshmart heavily discriminates against pits regardless of location (we’re in Phoenix,AZ and pit bulls are one of the most common breeds we see).
While he was highly dog aggressive toward big dogs, he was incredibly friendly toward every human he ran into, ignored little dogs, was not afraid of the sprayer OR high velocity blow drier, was amazing for nails (clip and dremel), good for ear cleaning and even got on the grooming table on his own for all of it.
We told the dad that his dog is welcome here any time and that the other place was probably just scared of him.
I’m just mad that a place that revolves around pets would discriminate so ignorantly against a breed. Especially groomers who should know better.
Their loss I guess. He’s a super easy dog and ours now ❤️
