112% Complete - Thoughts and Other Bits and Bobs

Finally beat the game with 112% completion! It's been a fun journey, and it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. Final game time is 37 hours 27 minutes over the course of two weeks!

Main take-away:

Beautiful game! The overall terrain is a bit square-ish, but is very well covered up by the environmental effects and such. Overall looks fantastic.

Soundtrack and sound effects are spot-on. The attention to detail is phenomenal, and the scores are fitting. Perfect.

I'm a big fan of environmental storytelling, so the hidden lore and cryptic story is exactly what I wanted.

Really fun bosses all around. I find that the faster paced bossfights were more fun for me, things like Pure Vessel, Sisters of Battle/Mantis Lords, and Nightmare King Grimm. Unpopular opinion, I think Watcher Knights is one of the most fun fights in the game.

If I have one complaint, it's that there weren't more platforming sections. There's very little platforming throughout the game, so when you reach the White Palace/Path of Pain the jump in difficulty is enormous and a little jarring. Some more intermediate level platforming might've made it feel better.

Other Random Thoughts:

My favorite area in the game is the Giant Geocluster hidden in Kingdom's Edge. Such a cool find!

Fourth Pantheon was incredibly easy outside of the Pure Vessel fight. Third Pantheon is much more difficult because Grey Prince Zote exists, Galien is there, Uumuu is a slog to fight, and Sly's deceptive range always gets me.

I also completed the Path of Pain. It took about two hours. Difficult, but not extraordinary so. I found the last two rooms to be the most difficult by far. Playing Celeste definitely prepared me.

Spell build begone. All hail the pure nail and nailbuild. I almost exclusively run Mark of Pride, Longnail, Unbreakable Strength, and Quickslash.

I liked playing the game without using Wayward Compass. It's a nice way to save a charm notch, and if you can remember the general shape of a given room, it's always easy to tell where you are.

I plan to complete the Pantheon of Hallownest, and also the Hall of Gods. I've done the first two pantheons with bindings, but not all at once. I'd love to try, but I can't stand how little damage I deal, on top of the health/soul reduction.

Final notes:

Basically I love the game. Easily one of my top five games, probably even top three. I've fallen in love with the characters and the art style and the music and AAAAA! This is one of the few games I've beaten "one hundred percent". I know I'm still missing a few things, like Steel Soul and the Fifth Pantheon, but I could die happy knowing I've achieved 112.
