People have been painting their nails since ancient times and some evidence of nail art has been found among the Incas of the 15th century, who had a fine pattern of an eagle painted on their nails. After liquid nail polish was introduced in 1907, the half-moon manicure was born. From the 1920s to the 1940s, the half-moon manicure appeared in variations of having the area near the cuticle and/or the tip of the nail left unpainted or colored in with different colors.
