Hi! I’m trying to nail down an itinerary for my first trip to Japan, going with my boyfriend. Mainly want to know if this is too much moving around/ if we should spend more time or less time anywhere. I think we will have the 2 week JR Pass.
We haven’t booked anything apart from flights at the moment so this is all completely flexible!
General timings at the moment are-
Tokyo- 6nights, Hakone- 1 night, Osaka- 4 nights, Kyoto- 4 nights, Naoshima/ Art islands- 2 nights, Hiroshima- 1 night, Tokyo- 4 nights.
03 (Tue) HEATHROW > HANEDA
04 (Wed) HANEDA >TOKYO Arrive in Haneda around 3.30pm, travel to our accommodation and spend the night exploring the local area.
05 (Thu) TOKYO 06 (Fri) TOKYO 07 (Sat) TOKYO 08 (Sun) TOKYO 09 (Mon) TOKYO Haven’t got anything for specific activities on which days yet as we aren’t sure where we are staying, but I think we will do a day trip somewhere (maybe Enoshima)
10 (Tue) TOKYO > HAKONE Plan to travel to Hakone early to arrive and have some time to explore before checking into our ryokan. Will probably forward our big luggage to Osaka so we don’t have to carry it around.
11 (Wed) HAKONE > OSAKA Check out of ryokan and spend a few hours exploring Hakone, travel to Osaka later.
12 (Thu) OSAKA 13 (Fri) OSAKA 14 (Sat) OSAKA Again, nothing specific planned yet except definitely a day trip to Nara.
15 (Sun) OSAKA > KYOTO Leave Osaka mid afternoon to check into our accommodation in Kyoto.
16 (Mon) KYOTO 17 (Tue) KYOTO 18 (Wed) KYOTO Will probably do two big sightseeing days and have one more relaxed day where we just do what we feel like. Considering doing a day trip out maybe to Lake Biwa or somewhere north of Kyoto.
19 (Thu) KYOTO > NAOSHIMA Planning to leave our big luggage in Osaka and travel from there early to Tamano where we will be staying(I think) Boat over to Naoshima and spend the rest of the day exploring until late, get the last boat back.
20 (Fri) NAOSHIMA/TESHIMA/SHODOSHIMA Plan to get the boat all the way to shodoshima from uno, then to teshima, then back to Naoshima. Is this realistic? Not sure how long this all will take. Would like to see the open sky night program.
21 (Sat) NAOSHIMA > HIROSHIMA Want to travel early to Hiroshima and spend most of the day on Miyajima, then back to Hiroshima for lots of drinking.
22 (Sun) HIROSHIMA > TOKYO Hit up the main sights in Hiroshima before travelling back to Tokyo(picking up our luggage in Osaka on the way) probably aiming to leave Hiroshima 2/3pm to arrive back in Tokyo 8/9pm( is this realistic?)
23 (Mon) TOKYO 24 (Tue) TOKYO 25 (Wed) TOKYO Do anything we missed/do lots of shopping and eating before we go back home!
26 (Thu) TOKYO > HANEDA HANEDA > HEATHROW Our flight back is around 11.30 so will just spend this day getting home.
