Do You Think the Mind Flayers are Corrupted Mages of Latria? (Lore Theory and Speculation)

I know the game, at least the English translation, says that they are "inhuman", but literally all demons come from something else as the game also reveals, and all things that have or once had a soul also can become a demon. I earlier had speculated about the nature of the Vanguard Demons being corrupted members of the fallen Giant race, and now I am wondering about the Mind Flayer guards of Latria. Since they use forms of the Soul Arts spells, wear cloaks, and drop Spices, it would seem fitting that they are mages of Latria that are corrupted, especially since Latria seems to have been full of mages basically, right up the departed Queen, the Yormedar family, and the Old Monk himself. Considering every other main enemies of the level are prisoners of Latria who will be experimented on, the Fools Idol, the gargoyles (which have painful nails covering their bodies), the Prisoner Hordes (which are people grotesquely fused together), the Man Centipedes, the Maneater duo, and of course the giant artificial heart, it seems bizarre that the Mind Flayers stick out like a sore thumb in this lineup serving the Old Monk as "inhuman", especially as they have a humanoid body already, and use spells themselves like many of the other enemies here do.
