I remember seeing both the trailer for, and a lets play for the first chapter of some Point and Click game on steam four or five years ago. It must have been either low budget or just an indie title, because it didn't have any actual 3D environments, just prerendered 3D sprites and FMV. It had a stylized, cartoony art style, sort of looking like TellTale's The Walking Dead, just without the defined black outlines on every character.
The plot seemed to revolve around a man investigating a cult which had kidnapped a rich businessman when he was a teenager. The first chapter was set in the 70's, with the player controlling the aforementioned rich guy, and documenting both how he was kidnapped and his escape. The cult seemed to have a fake audience attending their sermons, composed of naked mannequins which would play recordings of cheers or jeers depending on what the leader of the service was saying. The rich guy escapes by convincing his jock friend to kill one of the cultists by shooting him with a gun they stole. I was surprised the game had a T-rating on it's store page, given that you see the dead cultist with a bullet hole in his forehead. After they escape, the rich guy seems to express a concerning amount of pleasure in knowing he was responsible for his death.
The trailer seemed to imply more non rating appropriate violence, with a scene of a masked man brandishing various improvised weapons like a nail gun and a baseball bat. Other scenes from the trailer include a man hiking through the arctic, and two guys fighting with samurai swords. the game's cover art was a young man in a blue hoodie looking up towards the camera in front of several mannequins. I remember almost everything I saw of this game, but not it's name. I would appreciate any and all help finding it.
