One way cultural exchange only?

So, heres something I've wondered about on and off for years and was reminded of it recently. We as students commit to learning about Brazilian culture and language and history, at least of capoeira and slavery. This is heavily encouraged as a part of learning the art. Teachers travel internationally but do they truly invest in experiencing the culture of the country they are in, or do they, like British expats in Spain only.want to do what is familiar to them and their culture? This came up because I was talking to another student about our upcoming batizado which is a week long. I said what did he think about taking the teachers in their down time to different cultural trips as it were. A matinee at the theatre perhaps for those with decent English, a trip to a pub with a traditonal folk night going on, a rowing trip on the river, just some stuff that might be nice for them to do. He has been training a lot less time than I have but I think sadly.hit the nail on.the head when he laughed and said 'do you seriously think they'd be interested? ' . Has anyone taken visiting teachers to anything cultural in their culture they've enjoyed?
