It was a cold and rainy night in early June of 1986. MC, Yuri, and Natsuki stood around the grave in Sayori's backyard, completely overcome with grief. Monika was not present. It was at this time that the realization became clear to each them. Sayori, was dead. For the past several weeks since he discovered her body, MC was unable to believe it. Half the time he wouldn't leave his house to go to school, and when he did, he would shuffle from class to class rambling to himself. Many students, Yuri and Natsuki especially, worried that he might be going mad. When they tried to talk to him, it seemed as if he could not hear them at all. But what was perhaps even stranger throughout these weeks, was that no one could find Monika anywhere, either. But, the three club members expected her not to show up to the burial. It's wasn't that they didn't want her here, it was just that Monika was probably taking this really hard, and didn't want to see her Vice President get put in the ground. But now, here they stood. Cold, wet, and empty inside. Yuri was first to break the silence. "She helped me so much with my social anxiety. I should've thanked her more often." She said. Then, came Natsuki. "She always enjoyed my baking. Also, I never admitted it to her, but I always liked it when she called me cute. Now I wish I had." Finally, MC. "I should've told her I loved her. Why didn't I fucking tell her I loved her?" He was beginning to panic. "She had feelings for me for years, and I never noticed anything! Oh God, how could I have been so stupid and blind!" He dropped to his and started screaming prayers into the sky. "Our Father who art in Heaven, please have mercy on me! For I know what I have done and deeply regret it!" As he did this, Yuri and Natsuki noticed that the wind was picking up. Lightning and thunder crashed, and it rained harder. "MC!" Natsuki shouted. "A storm is hitting us! We have to get out of here now!" MC wasn't listening. "Natsuki, he's not going to listen, let's just grab him and go!" Yuri told her. They ran up and tried to pull him away from the foot of the grave, but he fought back. "No, no! Please, I can't leave her!" He screamed. "MC, she's underground!" Natsuki said. " Whattaya think you're gonna do? Dig her back up? Let's go!" With that, they ran across the street to MC's house and waited for the storm to pass.
October, Four Months Later.
MC, Yuri, and Natsuki sat in the club room, waiting for Monika to arrive. She had been coming into the Club later and later since the start of their Senior year. Yuri and Natsuki passed it off as her just being really busy with different activities, but MC was suspicious. Between Monika being absent from school for weeks following Sayori's death, practically missing all summer, and now consistently showing up late to the Literature Club, he had begun to wonder if she was feeling guilty about something. But what that something was, he still wasn't sure. He would figure it out sometime, but for now, he decided to focus on the situations at hand. The rest of the Club seemed to have gotten over the loss of their best member fairly well, including MC. They had been chatting collectively amongst each other about different things. Suddenly, Monika burst through the door. "So sorry, guys! I'm here now!" She said. "Let me guess. Piano again?" Natsuki groaned. "No. It was actually Track this time." Responded Monika. "Whatever." Monika gave her a small frown. "Well, anyway. Now that we can get the meeting started, let's share poems!" Monika chimed. Then, Natsuki spoke up again. "Are you serious Monika? You said you didn't want us to write poems anymore, remember? That you couldn't find the motivation to, now that Sayori is gone." Monika blushed slightly, embarrassed that she had forgotten. "Oh yeah. I did say that, didn't I?" Now it was Yuri's turn to talk. "Well, there has to be something we can do besides sitting around and talking. It's just been the same thing for a month and I'm starting to get a little tired of it." "Yuri has a point." Monika said. "We've got to start doing something new. Something fun." Natsuki groaned. "Ugh! Not this bullshit again! How do you expect us to have any fun without her?" Yuri tried to calm her down. "Natsuki please. Not in front of MC." She said. But, Natsuki wasn't having it. "No! Why don't any of you get it? Sayori was the life of this club! She was the one who would always try to make this the most enjoyable place for the four of us to be! Without her, we have nothing!" She crossed her arms in defiance. "That's not true, Natsuki! I still enjoy being here!" Said Monika. "Oh sure, Monika!" Natsuki snapped back. "You haven't even been bothered to show up half the time! Plus, you still haven't explained to us where you were for all those weeks after Sayori died." Monika frowned. "I didn't want to leave my house." Natsuki scowled. "Why?" Monika didn't answer. "Ugh, whatever! Who gives a shit?" Natsuki turned to Yuri. "Yuri! How do you feel about being here?" Yuri was startled. "Oh! I, uh, well... I guess it is a bit more disappointing around here. I'm really not enjoying it as much as I used to." Natsuki turned back to Monika. "See?" Monika sighed. "Natsuki, you only have the opinions of you and Yuri." "Well, why don't we ask MC then? He was hit the hardest by this, after all." Natsuki huffed. "MC, do you still like being here?" MC had just been sitting there, silently listening to the argument. At first, he didn't answer. "MC?" Natsuki got his attention. "You're right, Natsuki. The Club is nothing without Sayori." Natsuki's face lit up in triumph. "There. That's three against one." Monika scowled. "So, what are you suggesting here?" She asked, offended. "That we end the Literature Club." Said Natsuki. "What?! Are you serious?" Monika shouted. "100%." Natsuki replied. Monika contemplated this for a moment. Would she bring an end to her dream of running her own club, or spend the rest of the school year running a club that no one but her is happy being in? She decided that it was probably for the best. "Ok, everyone!" She sounded, standing up. "Let's take a vote on it. All in favor of leaving the Literature Club?" Natsuki, Yuri, and MC all raised their hands. "All opposed?" Monika slowly raised her own hand. "That's it, then. For my last action as President..." She hesitated. "I hereby announce the Literature Club officially closed!" With that, she slammed her fist on to a nearby desk to imitate banging a gavel. Everyone sat there for a moment, unsure of what to do. "So... that's it then? It's over?" Yuri nervously asked. "Yep." Monika chimed. "You can all go home." Natsuki immediately stood up. "Fucking finally! I'm getting outta here." She went over to the closet, grabbed her box set of Parfait Girls, and began to head for the door to leave. But, Monika stopped her. "What about your Dad?" She asked. "I don't care what he does to me when he sees this." Natsuki answered. "At this point, anything is better than being here." She went past Monika, and stormed out. Yuri timidly stood up, and began to leave herself. "Well, goodbye, I guess." She went out the door. Monika watched her leave, and then turned around. MC was spacing out again. "MC?" Monika asked. "sigh I know Monika, I know." He slowly got up from his seat. "If you don't mind, I need to go home and.... reminisce." He said. "About her?" Monika asked him. "The fuck do you think?" And he left Monika alone in the former club room.
Your Best Nightmare Later that evening, at MC's house. MC sat in his living room watching TV. His parents were still out of town. He had been reflecting on happier times with Sayori for the past 3 hours. He felt depressed. Everything was going so well. He had finally been able to get over losing her, and now today's events just had to bring it all back again. He looked out the window and saw storm clouds in the sky. They were coming toward the town. "Shit." MC said. "Wasn't expecting that tonight. Oh, well." About two hours later, MC was getting ready for bed. The storm was in full swing. But, it didn't concern him. If only he knew what would happen tonight. At the backyard of the house across the street, as the wind was howling and the rain was heavy, within the depths of Sayori's grave, something was stirring. Very slowly, two pale hands dug up through the earth. When a sizable hole was made, a head slowly rose up. With greasy, matted Coral pink hair and a dirty red bow. Then a face. A familiar face with sunken cheeks and dead blue eyes. She growled, gurgled, and choked through a scarred neck, which held a cut noose around it. The neck was attached to a rotting, boney body, that had a dirty and tattered cotton shirt and red shorts clinging loosely to it. She crawled and writhed her way out of the muddy hole. It was at this time that the situation became clear. Sayori, was back. She slowly stood up on shaking legs. Her bones cracked as she rose to her full height, threw her head back, and let out a pained monsterous scream.
Sayori limped and shuffled her way around the front her house, and into the night. She moaned and gasped, feeling hungry. So very hungry. She needed breakfast. She slowly dragged her feet down the road, deciding that she would pay her friends a visit. "Yu...ri." She growled. Then, she smelled something coming from a dark alleyway. She hobbled over, between trash cans and cardboard boxes. She spotted rats running to and fro. Maybe she would have a little snack first. Then she'll visit Yuri. She leaned down, her spine and hips crackling, grabbed a rat and picked it up. She brought the foul rodent to her nose, smelled it, and smiled. She opened her mouth and revealed yellow, broken teeth, which she sunk into the rat. It squeaked in pain, it's blood spraying out from the wound. Sayori ripped off a chunk of it's flesh, sloppily chewed, and swallowed. She growled in delight. It was delicious. She continued to find and eat more rats for a while. Before long, she decided it was time to see her friends. She walked out of the alleyway, and down the street to Yuri's house.
At Yuri's house. Upon arriving at her friends home, she found that the front door was locked. So, as zombies do, she broke it open. Stepping inside, she smelled the air. She picked up Yuri's scent. "Yu...ri. I'm...(gasp).he..re. She slowly crawled her way up the stairs to Yuri's room. As she got closer, the scent became stronger. She gently opened the door, to find Yuri sound asleep. Sayori growled her name loudly. "Yuuurriii." Yuri was startled awake. "Huh? Who's there? She asked, panicked. She saw the figure approaching her. "Yuurii." Sayori growled. "Who are you?!" Yuri shouted. Sayori stepped into the moonlight shining through the window. Yuri saw who it was, and her face went white. "N-No! I-it can't be! Not you!" She turned on her bedside lamp. "S-s-s-Sayo-!" She was cut off by Sayori growling and suddenly lunging toward her. "Ah! No!" Sayori grabbed Yuri and proceeded to bite into her shoulder. "Ahhh!" Yuri screamed. Sayori dragged her out of the bed and threw her to the floor. Yuri tried to scramble away, but her undead friend was too fast. Sayori pinned her down, and tore open her chest. Killing her instantly. She pulled out a number of Yuri's organs and ate them one by one. Her work here, was done. Now it was time to move on to the next victim. "Nat...su..ki." She moaned, stumbling out of Yuri's house and up the street once more.
At Natsuki's house. Walking up to Natsuki's front door, Sayori found that it was unlocked this time. She opened it, and stepped inside to find Natsuki's father asleep on the couch. Empty beer bottles littered the floor around him. "Uuuugghhh." Sayori groaned. Natsuki's dad snorted before slowly opening his eyes. "Huh?" His eyes immediately went wide at the sight of the stranger in front of him. "What? W-who are you?!" He stands up, tall and defiant, just like his daughter. "What are you doing in my house?!" But, as soon as he noticed what he was screaming at, that strong stature withered away. "Oh..oh God! What are you? You're not human! You're a monster!" Before he could say another word, Sayori jumped on him. "You're the monster!" She screeched. Natsuki's dad wailed in pain. "Aaaauuuugghh!!!!" Natsuki, within her bedroom, was shocked awake by her father's scream. "Papa? Papa what's wrong?" She yelled, running down the stairs and into the kitchen, only to find her father being devoured on the floor. "Daddy!" She screamed. Blood was pooling everywhere. "Turn around and face me, you fucking monster!" Sayori's head perked up at Natsuki addressing her. She slowly turned, growling like a dog with a savage look in her dead eyes. "Nat...(gasp).su...ki." Sayori moaned at her. "Oh my God! Sayori?! How?!" Natsuki promptly threw up. "Ugh!" She choked. "You look completely goulish!" Sayori stood up, and began shuffling toward her. "Naaatsuuuukiii." She said. "No!" Natsuki shouted, grabbing an egg beater from the counter next her. "Get away from me, you moldy bitch! Or I'll mix what's left of your insides!" She shouted, twirling the egg beater at Sayori. But, Sayori still continued to move closer. "That's it! You asked for it!" Natsuki yelled, as she wacked and prodded her with the beater as hard as she could. Unfortunately, as one might expect, it did nothing. "Shit! Why did I think that would work?" Natsuki said, as Sayori grabbed onto her, and bit into her neck. "Aauugh!" Natsuki screamed, struggling to escape the zombies grasp. Suddenly, to stop Natsuki from wiggling free, Sayori grabbed the top of her head, and pulled down hard to the left, snapping her neck. Crack! Natsuki went limp immediately. Now, Sayori could enjoy the rest of her meal. As she was about to leave, however, Sayori spotted a single chocolate cupcake on the counter that was decorated to look like a little cat. Sayori picked up the cupcake, and ate it, rapper and all. After finishing Natsuki, Sayori trudged out of the house, and further up the street, deciding that it was now time to get revenge on the person who truly wronged her. "Mon....ik...aaa." She choked. Then, she abruptly stopped in the middle of the street, and puked up part of her breakfast.
At Monika's house. Sayori limped up the front walkway of Monika's home with her body leaning to one side. This was it. Her chance for revenge. Now that she knew the true evil that Monika was, she had to take the other girls' lives before that demon could. The empty, dead feeling Sayori had before was now replaced with pure rage and hatred. She slammed the front door open so hard that it came off the hinges. "Ah!" Sayori heard a yelp from upstairs, signifying that Monika had been scared awake by the noise. She stopped and listened, not hearing any other sounds upstairs. Monika must be scared to get out of bed. Sayori smiled. Taking advantage this, she slowly crept up the stairs, so her footsteps were nearly inaudible. Reaching the landing, she made her way toward Monika's room. Upon opening the door and looking around, she could hear Monika wimpering to herself in bed. "Mon...(gasp)..ik...aaa." Sayori growled. Monika immediately began sobbing. "Oh God, Sayori! I'm so sorry!" She wined. "Bullshit! You...killed....me!" Sayori screeched, taking a step towards her. "Sayori, please! I just wanted you to be out of the way! I didn't think you would actually do it!" Sayori said nothing, only slowly walking closer. "Please, don't kill me!" Monika pleaded. But she knew there was no point in pleading with living death. She decided it would be best to accept her fate. Sayori crawled onto the bed, and strangled her.
Finale Limping back down the road toward her house once again, Sayori picked up a familiar scent. The smell was coming from MC's house. One more visit. She went up the walkway, and gently opened the door. Stepping inside of his house, Sayori silently trudged up the stairs to meet him. When she reached his bedroom, she could hear him snoring loudly. She slowly neared his bed, careful not to make any sudden noise, and lightly shook him awake. He opened his eyes and saw her figure standing before him. "Who are you?" He groggily asked, completely unaware. MC wasn't sure if he should be afraid or not. This presence seemed so familiar. "MC..... it's me." Sayori sighed. She stepped back into the moonlight. "Your...(gasp)..best friend." MC's eyes went wide. "Sayori? But, you're dead. How are you here?" He asked, slightly panicked now. "I'm...(gasp).. undead. A zombie....MC." MC furrowed his eyebrows suspiciously. This had to be a joke. "I'm really sorry, 'Sayori', but that's impossible. Zombies can't exist." Sayori sighed. "I was afraid of this. I guess... I'll have to...(gasp)..show you." She walked over to the light switch on the wall and flicked it on. "Agh! What the hell?!" MC shouted from the sudden light. As his eyes adjusted, he could make out what really did appear to be his childhood friend standing in the room. When they finished, he saw that it was, in fact, her. She was wearing the same clothes that he had buried her in, only they were now tattered, dirty, and covered in blood. Upon seeing this, he realized that there was no way this could be someone in a costume. It really was Sayori. "Oh my God. I don't believe it." MC stuttered. "Maybe...(gasp)..this will...help." Sayori gasped. She inhaled deeply. "I remember my death." "What?" MC asked, surprised. "I was standing in my room. The noose...was hanging from the ceiling....in front of me. I was crying... really hard. I climbed up on the chair.... unable to control..my actions. I didn't even... remember deciding to...do it. When I had the noose..(gasp) around my neck... I kicked the chair over...and immediately regretted...doing it. I still...didn't even...(gasp)..know what was going on." She looked at MC. He was staring at her intently. Sayori continued. "My body was... thrashing around. I desperately.. scanned the room...(gasp).. looking for a way to save myself. That's...when I saw...Monika." "You saw Monika in the room?" MC asked, shocked. Sayori looked him square in the eyes. "Yes. I realized...it was her doing. She...(gasp)..she killed me." Tears began streaming down her face. They were solid black. "Our friends..are dead, MC. I went to their houses...and ate them. Monika...(gasp)..tasted the best." MC's eyes went wide. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You did what?! Oh- oh dear God! Sayori why?!" He shouted. "Unfinished... business. That's why...(gasp)..I'm here now." Sayori moaned, smiling deviously.
MC got up from his bed, walked over to Sayori, and hugged her tightly. "Sayori. Tell me this isn't true." He sobbed. Sayori hugged him back. "I'm sorry, MC, but it is." "I still feel like this is all my fault. I should've realized how you felt about me before." Sayori frowned. "MC, it wouldn't have mattered anyway." MC buried his face into her rotting shoulder. "I don't care. I'm so sorry, Sayori. I love you." "I've been waiting a long time for you to say that. I love...you too. Now...it can just be you and me...(gasp)..forever." Suddenly, she dug her long, sharp nails into his back. MC screamed in pain. "Aaaaugh! What are you doing?!" Sayori's smile dropped as she stared at his face. "Forever." MC let go of her and ran to the corner of his room. She slowly trudged toward him. "Sayori no! Please, don't do this!" MC begged. "Foooreeeveerrr!" Sayori growled.
Back outside, with the rain falling hard, and the wind blowing, Sayori slowly dragged MC's dead body across the street. Looking far up the road, she saw the flashing lights of police cars. Reaching her backyard, she smiled wide. "Just you...and me. Best friends...(gasp).. forever." She threw him into her grave, before crawling in the muddy hole herself, and piling the dirt back over top. The rain poured, and the thunder crashed. They will lie there in death, forever. The End.
