38 details you may have not noticed in the manga

Hi, nice to meet you. Four things before we start:

1 My English is what it is, sorry; 2 corrections and other finds are welcome and encouraged; 3 there's an intentional mistake here inside, can you find it? 4 I’ve written this some weeks ago so I have missed the last 4-5 chapters which means the coffee cup detail section is incomplete.

  • About babies

In chapter 57, when playing the happy life game, Chika ends up “having” 9 babies with Shirogane.

Coincidentally, this is exactly the number of babies Prez wants, as shown in chapter 28.

  • Kaguya is the moon

The legend of Princess Kaguya in chapter 56 is pretty much evident, and she’s also depicted with that imagery in Yume’s mental image in chapter 131.

Prez got it immediately, and that’s why he marked Kaguya’s birthday with a moon drawing (chapter 51)! Btw we can guess Prez loves astronomy since chapter 7, and in chapter 23 we can also see his pajama hat. Chapter 119 features the Prez receiving the moonwatch, for people worthy of reaching the moon.

Kaguya admits liking Shirogane during full moon (chapter 120).

Curiosity from the volume 2 extras: the letter from an unnamed fan that Kaguya received would have never worked… because it compares her to the sun, showing us that the sender of the letter hasn't understood Kaguya at all.

  • Hayasaka is a star

It’s mindblowing how much stars Hayasaka features whenever she’s on scene. Nails, cellphone cover, twitter profile, but also speech bubbles and background as well!

In chapter 85 Kobachi Osaragi, the eyeless glass friend of Miko, notices the star-pattern of Hayasaka as well. Other characters are linked with stars, but only when they wink or with trivial stuff like Miko’s party hat in chapter 77 or when Prez shows Fujiwara the seasonings for his secret ramen.

Hayasaka features stars even when she’s poorly drawn by others, like Fujiwara in chapter 62.

  • Ishigami is a stalker, or at least he knows something

If you check out chapter 101 you’ll notice that Ishigami is the only one who could have taken the Fireworks and the Moongazing photos, which curiously enough are probably the most important moments in the series beside the dual confession arc.

In the Moongazing chapter he seems to remove himself out of the picture with the “I’m cold” excuse and later he’s not surprised unlike Chika. It’s because he was taking the photo exactly in the moment Prez says “I would never let go of Kaguya”. Compare the page with the photo in chapter 101!

  • Kashiwagi and her boyfriend most likely lost their virginity during early august

Nagisa gets confessed around the end of May (I suspect the wiki to be a bit off, check chapter 26 and notice that it’s July). Before then end of June (the French exchange party) Nagisa was actually thinking on dumping her boyfriend (chapter 17). In chapter 26 there’s hand holding talk and it’s clearly July.

In chapter 138, when asked by Kaguya about how much time should pass between kissing and having sex she says “two months”. Chapter 41 happens during the end of July, and it talks about relationships progressing to the “next stage”. Needless to be said, after the summer break, Nagisa’s boyfriend changes a lot, now way more confident. Notice that given her speech concerning French kissing, we have another proof that the couple already had its way before chapter 97, where they French kiss.

In chapter 48 the change seems to have happened, because Kashiwagi’s boyfriend has no real pressing request unlike the other times.

  • Miko is worst girl and should never get with Ishigami

If the author is sane of mind.

  • Karen Kino is actually the first named character to have appeared on page.

The balloon art catalogue in chapter 129 is published by Kino publishing, which makes sense given Karen is the daughter of the CEO of a publishing company.

  • In chapter 52 Kei murmurs something about newspapers when checking the clothes.

That’s because she’s calculating the amount of deliveries to buy the clothes! It’s most likely it’s on her, because Shirogane used to do newspaper delivery but now he’s supposed to be over it.

  • In chapter 53, during the trial, Iceguya wears the winter uniform. Bakaguya the summer one.

That’s because she’s… cold.

  • Teacups and coffee cups

The student council room displays a lot of different cups: full white, with a black line on bottom, dog-paw patterned, middle stripe. There’s some consistency: for example, Prez coffee cup is the same in chapter 13 and 27.

Take a look at chapters 1, 4, 7, 11, 13, 24, 27, 30, 32, 66, 98, 101, 121 to give yourself some idea.

It’s worth pointing out that the previous student council used different cups (121), and that Maki has a special cup just for herself (98).

  • Fujiwara is in charge of coffee and Kaguya in charge of tea.

That’s why during the festival Kaguya isn’t that good with coffee, she lacks practice! Fujiwara in chapter 101 makes coffee, predictably. In chapter 39 Kaguya offers something to drink to Kei, who accepts. It would surely been tea, Kaguya’s specialty, but Chika interrupted them!

  • Ishigami’s first mention comes from chapter 8, then he appears in chapter 11 cover.

Which means that since he finally appears on page in chapter 24… Ishigami trademark headphones never showed up in Miracle Jump. By then he’s already on a different magazine!

  • Kaguya’s eye fetish has a deeper meaning (LOL)

Chapter 16 features a line like “If he glares at you…” but we should consider that Kaguya’s father doesn’t even bother looking at her when she visits (chapter 44).

Basically, it’s sort of: “If he looks at you it means he’s paying attention to you.”

  • Fujiwara’s recurrent motive are flower patterns

Check when she’s on page! Btw Fujiwara’s umbrella and smartphone covers are flower-patterned as well.

  • The Fujiwaras fetishes

Fujiwara likes the idea of “being eaten” (chapter 22), while Moeha likes “to eat” (chapter 52) and Toyomi, the eldest sister, is all about food (Chapter 43).

  • Trash

When Fujiwara admits liking someone in chapter 77, Miko immediately says “who is this piece of trash”.

…implying she likes pieces of trash. Ishigami, anyone?

  • Little mistake in chapter 29

Kaguya’s bow has no string

  • Double standards

Kaguya has no right to be pissed off when Prez sleeps with her without doing anything in the heartpounding sick visit chapter… since in chapter 30 she doesn’t steal a kiss neither! At the same time Prez leaves Kaguya getting all the rain in chapter 33, ideal payback for the one time Kaguya ditched their heartpounding shopping trip before the French exchange.

  • Kaguya imagines Papa Shirogane's face before even seeing him.

Truly a genius…

  • The off-page evolution of Kaguya and Kashiwagi’s relationship can be tracked

In chapter 60 Kaguya already considers Kashiwagi as possible secretary, meaning they are already friends. In chapter 92 she’s included in Prez’s imagination as part of Kaguya’s close friends, clear sign it’s already well known fact.

  • Shirogane walks Kaguya home in chapter 60.

I find it curious that neither recognize this as significant.

  • Volume 6 extras mirror the cover of chapter 13.

Notice that Kaguya/Chika stayed unchanged, but got more intense. Chika/Shirogane obviously changed, given how many times Chika had to teach Prez something

  • Penguins

Prez says he knows a lot about penguins in chapter 74. It’s not the first time penguins show up with him. In chapter 3 he used the popular mascotte Pen-tan to send a message to Kaguya, and he uses penguin emoticons on Line (chapter 102). In chapter 131 Prez’s snack is a penguin.

  • Ishigami and Iino

Both are the only ones who wanted to resign from the student council, at a certain point. The flower storyline features both. Both greet the other with a disgusted “Ew”. The parallels are really too many, maybe this deserves a thread on its own.

  • Boys and running

In chapter 83 Papa Shirogane says girls love a fast sprinter. He’s mocked for that, but actually in chapter 86 Kaguya admires Prez running speed in the 100m dash.

  • Kaguya and eyes, round 2

Kaguya doesn’t get who Papa Shirogane is because, unlike Prez and her sister, his eyes are covered by dark sunglasses. Which he’ll remove exactly during his formal introduction.

  • The student council room is surprisingly coherent…

…with the notable exception of chapter 46, where the wardrobes disappear for a page and the room temporarily gains a bow window. Block notes and phone disappearing from time to time can be explained, but that’s minor stuff.

Btw if you check the anime you’ll notice that the roof of the student council building has windows that lack in the manga. There’s a reason, of course. The secret room needs some light!

The room features: desk, table, 2 couches, 7 pictures, 2 paintings, 2 plants, big tv screen, 2 storage wardrobes, a coat hanger and the secret room.

Below the TV there’s also room for Kaguya’s makeup tools.

Chapter 100 shows a side of the building that opens up for some secret room considerations and in chapter 113 there’s finally a little error. The secret door cannot slide if it’s that near to the wall! The secret room insofar has been used only by Kaguya (112) and Prez (136), when he tries his Arsene costume.

Ishigami knew about it, fwiw.

  • Miko knows the bonfire tradition stopped three years before.

Chances are, the last bonfire was at Shuuchiin.

  • When Ishigami gets really depressed, people’s face start disappearing.

Guess who’s the one more immune to this trait?

Wrong, it’s Onodera. Curious, huh? Afaik it happens only in chapter 88, and she notices it immediately.

  • Kobachi Osaragi shows up in titles very late.

She’s featured in chapter 85’s title, but not in chapter 68’s one. Which features “I”, instead.

  • Evil people

In Shuuciin there are people who’d do heartless actions without a second thought. Two of them will probably show up in the future, the other one is… Nagisa.

We can see another glimpse of that side of Nagisa in chapter 97. And in chapter 124, where she notices both Tsubasa and Maki are friends with Ishigami.

Her evil side will show up in the series, trust me on that.

  • Hayasaka and bullshits

She says it’s impossible to be loved if you show your true self. Too bad that’s exactly the opposite of what she says to Kaguya all the time!

  • Pay close attention to the characters’ rooms!

Fujiwara’s room features music trophies (94), Ishigami’s as nerdy as it gets. Nagisa features her musical instrument, Iino’s house features law books.

In that sense Kaguya’s room, while the most rich, is also the most devoid of any personality. There’s nothing particularly cherished or held dear.

Actually she likes to watch outside the room…

  • Ribbon-less Fujiwara

This catastrophic occurrence happens only in chapter 96 and some darkness chapters.

  • Same reaction

When Ishigami fails at the exams in chapter 105, his reaction is exactly like Kaguya’s. Same words.

  • Devoted heart keychain: a timeline

Ishigami gives him to Miko, who puts it in the lost items box. But Ishigami found it on the ground nearby the archery range since it’s Kaguya’s!

…and Kaguya received it from Tsubame in chapter 120.

  • Parallel

Atenbo Yume (chapter 131) knows date, blood type and weight at birth of Prez, exactly like Kaguya did.

  • In chapter 134 you can notice that nobody took Maki’s splendid balloons… :(
