Respect Bi-Han, AKA the First Sub-Zero, AKA Noob Saibot!
"Let's get something straight... I am not a ninja... I am Lin Kuei! Scorpion was a ninja!"
Backstory and Overview
In life, Bi-Han was Sub-Zero, infamous Lin Kuei assassin with control over the element of ice. But after his death, he became something new: the shadowy demon of the Netherrealm called Noob Saibot. Next to nothing is known about this mysterious warrior.
Feats from games that are ports/derived from other games will be beneath the original game. Special moves are listed in order of appearance and taken from the first game they appeared in.
This is composite Bi-Han/Noob, so this RT covers all officially licensed versions of Bi-Han/Noob. Versions of Bi-Han/Noob with enough feats to warrant their own thread have been split off from this one to save space, and are linked at the bottom.
The name "Bi-Han" for the older of the two Sub-Zeroes is an invention of the new timeline. For simplicity's sake, even if the name Bi-Han isn't used by a certain source, the older of the two Sub-Zeroes will be referred to as such.

Teleport - Noob teleports to his opponent. He can also turn this into his classic Teleport Slam.
-
Fireball - Noob throws a pinkish fireball at his opponent with one hand. Can be done in the air.
Deadly Alliance
-
Spear - Basically just a copy of Scorpion's famous "Get over here!" move. This is only in the Game Boy Advance spinoff/port, Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition.
-
Blue Fireball - Noob sends a bluish fireball at his opponent. This is only in the Game Boy Advance spinoff/port, Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition.
Deception
In this game, Noob was partnered with the cyborg ninja Smoke as a tag team. Because of this, some of his moves involve Smoke.
-
- In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Noob uses this move without first teleporting.
Armageddon
- Black Hole - Noob shoots a dark portal into the air which lands on the battlefield and lingers for a while. If an opponent steps into the portal, they will drop down in front of Noob.

-
Weapon Fatality - Noob attacks his opponent with his sword until they die. Once again, pretty simple. This is only in the Game Boy Advance spinoff/port, Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition.

Throw - Noob grabs his opponent, letting a clone drag them into an inky portal and beat them up off screen. Then another inky portal opens up on the battlefield, and the opponent is thrown out. Not really a special move, but Noob's is cool, so I thought I'd include it.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
This game is canon to the old timeline. Consider all items/power ups gameplay feats. Also, only Bi-Han appears.
Bi-Han
Strength
- [Gameplay] Resists the pull of a tornado by grabbing onto a ledge. This is necessary for beating the game.
Durability
Cryomancy
- The instruction manual of the game gives some insight into his cryomancy powers. Specifically, it says that they function by "absorbing the surrounding air" and by doing this, Bi-Han can "deplete the air in his immediate area, causing him to temporarily lose his ice generating abilities." I assume this is referring to moisture. Also, he can generate ice as cold as -500°F. Given that the lowest temperature theoretically possible, absolute zero, is only -459.67°F... yeah, he breaks the laws of physics.
Miscellaneous
Items/Power Ups
Here's the instruction manual's descriptions of the game's items. Note that this includes two items - the Map of Elements and Shinnok's Amulet - that serve no use, and a scrapped item called the Universal Translator. Bi-Han can hold up to 10 items at once.
-
Tablet of Truth - Tablets that give hints. Only available on Easy/Very Easy mode.
-
Urn of Vitality - Heals Bi-Han for 100% health and restores his Ice Meter to 100%.
-
Dit Dow Formula - Reduces the damage Bi-Han takes, increases the effectiveness of healing items. While it think it's supposed to be temporary, all footage I've seen has it lasting until the end of the level, so... maybe it's a glitch or somehting, I don't know.
-
Shield of Invincibility - Renders Bi-Han invulnerable to all damage for a short amount of time.
-
Cold Regenerator - Restores Bi-Han's Ice Meter to 100%. Can't be held.
-
Urn of Strength - Temporarily boosts Bi-Han's strength. With this active, he's able to topple a massive stone statue of Shinnok, sending it crashing through a wall. There's only one of these in the game.
Special Moves
-
Ice Blast - The classic ice blast that freezes an enemy in place.
-
Diagonal Ice Blast - An ice blast aimed either at a 45° angle upwards or down at the ground, where it creates a slippery patch of ice.
-
Ice Clone - Bi-Han creates a copy of himself out of ice. If someone touches it, they're frozen.
-
Super Slide - A longer version of the standard Slide that can go through enemies.
-
Freeze on Contact - Allows Bi-Han to freeze an enemy on contact when running.
Finishers
- Fatality - His classic spine rip. You get the choice to use it on two bosses throughout the game - Scorpion and Sareena. While I think him using it on Scorpion is canon, him using it on Sareena definitely isn't.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
It's never outright stated which Sub-Zero is the one in the intro cutscene. According to the narration, the cutscene in question takes place at the end of the first tournament. Later in the game, Liu Kang says that the first Sub-Zero was killed after the tournament. Putting it all together, it has to be Bi-Han.

Malibu Comics' Mortal Kombat
In this series, Bi-Han and Noob Saibot are separate entities.
Bi-Han
Strength
-
Scorpion (possessing Hydro) heavily implies that Bi-Han killed him with his spine rip Fatality from the games. In any case, he killed Scorpion with his bare hands.
-
Takes out a group of mutants, knocking one away with a kick and flipping one through the air.
-
Knocks Kung Lao away with an uppercut. Note: This is really Shang Tsung transformed into Bi-Han, but nothing says the feats shouldn't apply to Bi-Han.
Durability
-
Does this same thing again later on.
- For reference, the Malibu version of Scorpion can break open metal restraints with his mace.
-
Takes a hit from Goro and gets up after.
- For reference, the Malibu version of Goro is strong enough to smash apart rock and mangle a car.
-
Takes a combined attack from Johnny and Sonya and is fine after.
-
Gets knocked down by Kano and gets up sometime later. It's unclear if he was knocked out then got up later, or feigned being knocked out, judging by his comments.
- For reference, the Malibu version of Kano can punch bricks to pieces and kill a man with his bare hands.
-
- For reference, this is the only good part in the Malibu comics.
Speed/Agility
-
- For reference, the Malibu version of Baraka is fast enough to blitz an entire group of undead warriors, not getting hit once, do that same thing again, and attack so quickly that it looks like he has multiple arms.
Cryomancy
-
Freezes Scorpion and breaks him apart with a kick. In this series, there's some weirdness about Scorpion being a ghost who has to become "solid" in order to fight Bi-Han, so this might not be as impressive as it looks.
-
Freezes a six-armed Shokan named Grum, then one shots him with a kick.
-
Freezes Kano, then a random mutant. Kano somehow breaks out quickly, though.
-
Freezes a guard in a thick block of ice and breaks it apart with a kick.
-
Freezes Kung Lao in a covering of ice and breaks it apart with a kick. Note: This is really Shang Tsung transformed into Bi-Han, but nothing says the feats shouldn't apply to Bi-Han.
-
Freezes then knocks out Goro with a kick.
- For reference, here's Goro's respect thread. It's composite, old, and some links are dead, but the Malibu durability section is all there.
Miscellaneous
-
Has an old throat injury that becomes painful whenever Scorpion comes back after him.
-
Somehow burns a picture to ash with no visible means of burning said picture to ash.
-
Somehow senses where Reptile is while he's presumably using his invisibility.

Reacts to and counters a blitz from Baraka. Yeah, this is the same thing as directly above, sue me.

Trama Editorial's Mortal Kombat 4 Comics
In this series, only Noob Saibot appears.
Noob Saibot
Durability
-
Takes a bicycle kick from Liu Kang and teleports away, seemingly fine.
- For reference, the Trama version of Liu Kang is strong enough to send a man flying a great distance with a kick, additionally causing the spear he was holding to stab into someone.

Freezes a guy who's leaping at him, causing him to crash and shatter into pieces.
- Novelization version of the scene. There's some more detail given here, like how Bi-Han froze him "hard as steel" and how the bits of the guy left behind thaw quickly. Also, the guy's wearing armor in the novelization.
Mortal Kombat Novelization
Weaknesses
Mortal Kombat
-
When he's charging up an ice attack, Liu Kang throws a bucket of water at Bi-Han. The water freezes into an icicle, impales him, and sends him flying across a room. So... yeah, he doesn't handle water well.
- Novelization version of the scene. In the book, instead of the ice freezing when it gets into his aura-charging-sphere-thing, the ice blast meant for Liu hits it instead.
Noob Saibot
Instead of being a deceased Bi-Han, the version of Noob seen in Annihilation is just a ninja that... oozes out from Ermac's chest? Here's the novelization version of the oozing out of Ermac's chest scene.
Miscellaneous
Annihilation
-
Together, Ermac and Noob overpower Sonya for a while.
- Novelization version of the scene. There's some more detail here than what you see in the movie.
Jeff Rovin's Mortal Kombat
Mouse over feats for chapter number. Only Bi-Han appears. He's not explicitly stated to be Bi-Han or the "older brother," but the book was written when only the first two games were out, and thus when Bi-Han was the only Sub-Zero to influence Jeff Rovin's character. (Technically the younger Sub-Zero existed, but only as part of an arcade ending.) Also, pretty much every character in the book is chiefly inspired by their Mortal Kombat 1 version.
Bi-Han
Durability
Speed/Agility
-
Bi-Han is said to "move with the speed of a blizzard." I don't really associate blizzards with speed, but... well, that's what the book says.
Cryomancy
-
One blast from his mask collides with a fire attack from Liu Kang, creating a wall of steam.
-
Bi-Han blasts Liu Kang and Raiden at the same time, encasing both men in ice "several inches thick."
Weaponry
-
In this novel, Bi-Han is absolutely loaded with gear. His vest lets him glide for short distances, his shoes have inflatable air pockets that let him temporarily walk on water, and concealed inside his belt are "kyoketsu shogs" (knives attached to lengths of nylon cord), smoke bombs, vials of poison, a breathing tube for underwater use, and firecrackers for distractions. Around his wrists he has hooks that can be used both as climbing tools and as weapons, and slung across are a length of chain and a long staff with a hidden knife tip. Even with all this on, he's still able to move "with ease and secrecy" and quickly climb down from his home, which is located in a cave two hundred feet up on a wall of sheer rock.
-
The hidden knife tip of his staff is serrated and seven inches long.
-
The smoke bombs produce a greasy black smoke that causes people to gag and seem to have a pretty wide area of effect. According to Liu Kang, they're made with "oil and tear gas" and are "small, under high pressure, and activated by puncturing them with a nail."
Miscellaneous
-
As a member of the Lin Kuei, Bi-Han presumably went through Lin Kuei training, which is briefly described in the book. Those trained can "use all weapons," improvise weapons from common objects, and are masters of many trades in order to blend in while going from town to town and undertaking missions. Some training exercises included holding one's breath for five minutes underwater and getting stranded naked in deserts or on mountaintops with the goal of making it home. Many trainees apparently died.
