Do you have a source for this asspull statistic? Or are you just silencing all the people you disagree with, like the rest of the fucking idiots who are saying gamergate is against women and racial minorities?
Jesus it makes me cringe to imagine the OP for these twitter catastrophes is still active online, and hasn’t reflected on anything to see why this shit is completely appalling. You sound more like a controlling ex-boyfriend than a representative of a movement that supposedly stands for women and women’s agency.
You can be introduced to a movement with very simple and good statements. Be kind to your fellow human beings. Fight for the weak and disenfranchised. Protect the nation.
By allowing them authority over parts of your perception, you are more prone to accepting the more radical aspects of them. Sure, you’re fairly sceptical if they flat out say something radical, but if you accept their statements as fact, even if they say things you really want to believe are true, you are slowly but surely being indoctrinated. You start to gain an appetite for statements that feed your growing bias, until you believe in the most vile, radical beliefs, and become more and more blind to contrary evidence.
This is how it’s worked for thousands of years. From villages, kings, religions, political factions, militias, social movements, all of these start out with simple goals. Protect what’s ours. Protect the weak. Take back our rightful place. Believe in a higher power. Be kind to your fellow humans. Restore the former glory. End violence and disenfranchisement against certain genders.
But then they separate you from others. They give you a title, a group, a badge to wear. Republican. Nationalist. Labour. Liberal Democrat. Socialist. Moslem. Christian. Feminist. Men’s Rights Activist. Boko Haram. Revolutionary United Front. Irish Republican Army member. NSDAP member. British National Party. Hutu. You adopt an identifier. It becomes part of your identity. You start to fall for ‘no true Scotsman’ fallacies. You start to fear being marked a traitor, or not agreeing with the cause. So you start trying to fit in with the cause by saying more and more radical things, until you start to believe them.
This is why we all must be sceptical. This is why we all must question authority, question logic, seek truth, and not fall for radical thought under the guise it is a means towards the simple and honourable goals you started out seeking.
No honourable goal, no resolution, can be reached through means that aren’t peaceful. No honourable goal should ever be sought by degrading, diminishing, dehumanising, or destroying other lives. Nobody is your enemy by virtue of existing.
