A while back I ordered a Chinese airbrush despite all the warnings, here's what I think....
It's actually a really good option. Don't get me wrong, the metal is VERY light and I doubt it will last forever but that said, neither did my Iwata. When I broke the nib on my Iwata I looked into replacing it and at $40 for that one tiny gold piece I thought I would at least try a dodgy alternative.
The Airbrush I bought was the one seen here https://www.aliexpress.com/…/1pc-Mayitr-A…/32847312531.html…
I don't do a whole lot of fine detail with my airbrush anyway, I use it for blends and base coats and the occasional patch of highlighting and for this it's proven to be more than enough. The picture attached was done with this airbrush. I'm going to finish off the details with a fine tip later on.
The paint flowed really nicely (actually I would say better than it ever did from my Iwata), I didn't have a single clog, it's easier to clean because the cup is removable and worked really well at low and mid pressure. The dual action was satisfying and felt much the same as my old airbrush, there was no perceptible difference in control to me.
I'm not experienced enough to know the finer points but as someone who uses airbrushes for the purposes mentioned above this is a great option and at $16AUD per brush I can replace the entire thing cheaper than I could one part from Iwata.
I bought two with replacement parts and will be solely using this moving forward.
If you're wanting to get into airbrushing but don't because of the cost, don't be put off by warnings about quality control. I order hundreds of things from Aliexpress and any time I've had the slightest issue it has immediately been replaced. Even things that broke through use a month down the track. I've been really impressed with their service.
Schilling over.
