Hollowknight, I give it a 4/10 (Unpopular opinions incoming)

I'm at the ending right now and did as much optional content as I could bear but this game is just boring the shit out of me.

I tried to keep playing, still have dream warriors to go, some optional bosses and all the dlc. The only thing I really want is to rush to white palace though and see what the big deal is, but I don't feel like doing even more bosses, the combat is just too bland imo. It's cool they wanted to make a metroidvania style 2d side scroller, but does that mean we have to go back to the dark ages and only use 4 directional input? What's the problem with having a diagonal slash or jump? It would make the fights much more engaging imo. Having 1 basic attack doesn't help either. I guess something like hornet's needle dive or the ability to combo slashes was just too much trouble. Spells and nail arts aren't great either imo, they seem to stall the fight more than make it engaging (give or take a few fights) Aside from that, it just looks like a internet flash game to me. I understand they made it this way to keep things simple, but to see such a harsh lined character against such a beautiful background just cheapens the game imo and it removes the sense of immersion for me. A little more details would've been apreciated. There's also a lot of backtracking, I usually don't mind but this game had me visit some areas 3 or 4 times again, which after a while just becomes tedious, especially since you already do some areas multiple times because of a loss against a boss.

I would probably enjoy it more if it was a $5 worth platformer with some enemies for flavor and the down slash jumps.

These are just my opinions though.
