Good "Upgrade" from current setup?

Hi there,

I currently shoot on a D3400 which has been really fun for me as I started off shooting film on my trusty N70. I'm however a bit bothered because I cannot use the now vintage lenses that I've managed to collect over the years on this camera without a bit of hassle. I've been doing just fine dealing with exposure and focus, but I'm just tired of chimping with the camera. I was curious as I'm planning on 'upgrading' soon to a Nikon DSLR with incamera motor for my vintage auto-focus lenses; but I want to upgrade to something that will allow me to use the in camera's rangefinder function in Manual mode for my non cpu/af lenses. The D3400 doesn't allow me to do that, so I have to constantly switch back and forth between manual and aperture priority mode in order to get focus correct and then take a photo. I'm mostly shooting photography for art purposes, but it'd be nice to nail everything without having to switch camera modes all the time. I find using just my eye doesn't quite leave me with good result; especially when using my ancient Tamaron SP 23A macro lens. I'd really like to nail that focus using a rangefinder function, not with live view or chimping.

Can anyone recommend me a Nikon camera body to suit my needs?
