My Goal in 2019

Vaporwave is going in an interesting direction.

In one corner, there is a fresh and exciting side that is seems to be venturing out into a frontier pretty much unexplored yet until this year. We've seen a massive rise in the interest and release of physicals (vinyl specifically) as well as a new focus for artists to work on more sample free material. And whether that's to avoid legal issues or just merely a desire for a refreshing way to go about making music in the genre, I'm excited to see what comes out with this method of production in the future.

In the other corner, we have those who miss the true anonymity and obscurity of the genre... And with good reason, as the earlier days of the genre provided new excitement with its sketchiness in the digital age of finding new music. There wasn't even a name for the genre at the time, people just universally agreed on a virtual scale that we all had this craving for a certain type of aesthetic and nostalgia, through music and art intertwined. Artists were more unknown, and it almost felt like a "lost media" type of vibe when discovering a site or youtube video containing a track or album.

For my case specifically, I've seen a lot of growth on my channel this year. I'm obviously no Pewdiepie or anything number wise, but it's incredible seeing how much of a tight-knit audience established around my content that actually comment and reach out to me about what I'm making. I'd rather have 10,000 people I can connect to on a more personal level than 10,000,000 subscribers that simply give me a view. Quality over quantity.

My channel has introduced a lot to the genre and to the community, and I've come to realize that I can use my platform as a real way of introducing artists and labels to those who don't know too much about the genre or just simply need something new to listen to.

As of the channel's existence, I've pretty much covered the classics we all already know, from Mana Pool to I'll Try Living Like This, but in 2019 I've made it my personal goal to focus on the smaller artists. The artists less known, who still put out great quality content, yet get overshadowed by the 20 or so big name albums that always get discussed about.

I won't be abandoning the classics by any means, as at this point I'm going to make a video whenever I feel like it on any topic I just feel like hitting on. So if something comes up in the news on a classic artist or album, I'll definitely cover it. I want to eventually make a Lux Elite mini doc in 2019 for example...but keep it secret. a nice little reward for taking the time to read this far into this post lol :)

But my motivations for new videos will come from my desire to spread the word on some of the smaller fish in the pond, that if maybe gotten a little more exposure, could develop into the next vapor-classic. Expect more countdown-style videos for albums less-heard or artists on the rise to look out for. Merch, interviews, guests in my videos etc. I really want to provide a place for those to get heard this year.

I had a lot of fun making my underrated Vaporwave albums countdown video, and was so happy to see how excited some of the artists I mentioned got when including them. It really was an amazing feel, and goes to show how much some of these artists appreciate the recognition.

In conclusion (Remember when all our teachers told us never start your ending paragraph with "In conclusion"?), Whether youre excited for the newer notions of the Vaporwave genre or yearn for a previous style, the beauty of the genre is that you can always have it your way. You can still go get lost online and slowly plunge into a virtual abyss of weird art and music, or you can get right up to the action and go to a live show or grab a physical. Artists and labels are so friendly and always love to hear what you say, you could even message em and I'm sure they'll hit ya up back.

If you're still reading this, thanks for taking the time out in hearing what I gotta say. Currently writing this in a Starbucks right now, had to take a break on tryna' nail some music. Sittin' with a coffee w coconut milk that got cold now idk im like on this weird health kick even though half the shit I still get just ends up being super expensive and not even that much healthier for you lol. idk im an asshole

Thanks everyone for making this community so much fun to be apart of. Cheers to Vaporwave and 2019. To new music, creators, and friends in the community.
