How I realized that I was, indeed, a furry

In one of my previous articles, "How schediaphilia made me a better artist", I made mention that I am one of these people that are sexually attracted to cartoon characters.

Now, I am going to talk about how I realized that I was a furry.

It all started in my childhood. Again, I was a lonely girl in a small town, which was populated by overtly religious zealots.

Most girls my age preferred either "Hannah Montana" or "High School Musical". The boys were more interested in their guns and 4-wheelers.

I had shown an immense interest in not only Oriental culture, but also cartoons.

In particular, I enjoyed cartoons with talking animals.

When I was 8, I dove headfirst into the fandom of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, thus outgrowing my "princess stage" completely.

When I was 11 years old, I started reading the "Redwall" series. One crack of the first book, and I fell in love with the world of Redwall and her furry inhabitants, and went on amazing adventures with them without exactly leaving my shitty small town.

When I was 15, I started reading the Usagi Yojimbo series. This was the same year that I moved from a shitty small town in Texas to the island of Oahu. I first saw Usagi in a ninja turtles cartoon when I was younger, but then I realized that Usagi has his own comic series as well.

In the same year, I opened up my own deviantART account, and then I started drawing a LOT of anthropomorphic animals, and collecting furry art. As I did more research on the furry community, I realized that I was, indeed, a furry. Though I don't have my own fursuit, that doesn't mean that I am no less furry than the person sitting next to me on public transit.

My family eventually found out about this. (My family is military.)

My dad was not pleased at all, as he scrolled through the furry art that I collected online.

"NO DAUGHTER OF MINE IS GROWING UP TO BE SOME....FREAK!", he told me.

This only made me want to dive into the furry fandom even more.

The final nail in the coffin of becoming a furry was when I started working on my own furry comic.

(I should have it published within 1-2 years.)

I am still in the closet about being a furry, as I have only let three of my most trusted friends know that I am a furry; however, being a furry has helped me realize strengths that I have never known, as it was covered in the rubble of my own melancholy.

Maybe one day, being a furry will pay off, and maybe one day, my father will accept me as I am.
