So, I delidded my 8700K: here are my thoughts.

I completed the process in under five minutes by skipping several steps, and the whole shebang cost me less than $30 ($12.99 for the BoArt delid tool on Amazon, and $12.45 for 1 gram of Phobya Liquid Metal on Amazon. You could probably delid 50+ CPUs with a gram of liquid metal, it's insane how little you need.)

So, I put the CPU in the delid tool, used the hex wrench to tighten the device, and stopped when I heard a pop / click. I then took the lid off and applied a small dab of clear nail polish to the exposed circuit near the heatsink on the actual chip. While the polish dried, I cleaned off ONLY the thermal paste on both sides of the lid with a paper towel then cleansed it with rubbing alcohol via a cotton swab. I then cleaned off ONLY the thermal paste from the chip using the same method, and repeated it a third time on my AIO.

I put an unfathomably small drop of liquid metal on the chip's heatsink and gently spread it out over the entire heatsink with a cotton swab.

I keep saying ONLY the thermal paste was removed because I left the silicone adhesive on the chip and lid. Why? It's tedious to remove and you have to use force. I feel if anything has a large chance to cause damage somehow, it's that step. I also didn't want to reseal the heatsink. Instead, I just gently placed the chip back onto the board, then put the lid back on top. I had one index finger applying downward pressure to the lid while I secured the CPU latch - voila, process complete.

This was in a mITX rig, specifically in a Phanteks Evolv Shift which runs HOT. It was idling , but now quite high before but now I can overclock my 8700K somewhat and keep it in safe ranges. Well worth it.

P.S. - The boart tool doesn't have a feature to help you re-lid the chip, so if you wanted to do that, buy a different one (probably 2x the price). Also, don't just open the liquid metal syringe and apply to the CPU - try applying it on a paper towel first so you don't accidentally bathe your chip in a sea of liquid metal.
