Does anyone else find it hard to choose spells/nail arts on a keyboard?

I'm playing on a keyboard, and it's perfectly fine for controlling things, except IMO choosing spells and nail arts. During any sort of difficult combat, I find it difficult to pull off anything other than the default shade soul and great slash. Something about pressing up/down to select another ability, while also dodging with left/right and pressing/releasing jump and timing the attack, it just requires more finger multitasking agility than I seem to have. Maybe I just need to git gud, but I wonder if this is the one thing where a controller would be better than a keyboard. Anyone else have this experience? Kinda wish I could bind each attack to a different key, since I think it'd be easier to do something like press Q for descending dark than press two keys at once while also doing other things.
