Looking for suggestions on my art school's theater room we're building, over here in China. Need help with projector placement, appropirate speakers/sub(s), and any other tips - it's my first time doing this!

Hi all, first time poster and new to the sub. Never done a setup of my own, before, but was a salesman at Best Buy, many years ago, so I know the tip of the iceberg for jargon and needs.

This is the big room in the school we're building in China - it'll be used for both movie nights, as well as to show images/videos for staged theater shows during drama performances (it's an arts school).

Hoping you all can bridge the gaps in my knowledge, and make suggestions for things I wouldn't even begin to know to ask.

Also, my wife is controlling the cash, and she's not so enthused about all the spending it'll take to make a theater. So, price is a factor - willing to sacrifice some quality for price.

Here is an album of the detailed room pictures.

Here's some of the basic information:

Intended Use Primary: Movies/videos, 720p and 1080p, generally. Device: Projector (don't have one yet) - considering an Epson Home Cinema 1060, or similar Receiver: (don't have one, yet) - considering a Sony for ease of use Room & Projection Wall/Viewing Distance Dimensions: Room is an "acute trapezoid" shape, appx 24' x 26' 26' projection wall to rear wall (16' proj. wall to seating) 21' Projection wall WIDTH 10-15' Projection wall HEIGHT Want to do a painted screen on the big wall, but also need to put some wall-mounted speakers on there, somewhere. We will build some theater style tiered seating in the seating area. Room is above a restaurant. Projection wall has another classroom on the other side, and is just drywall with studs every few feet; many nails and other imperfections I need to smooth out on that wall, before doing any painting. What's the best method to smooth it before painting? Room floor is concrete with rubber dance flooring, and the seating area will be wood floor. Seating will be tiered and made of wood. Non-traditional seats will be used - so it will look like 3 large steps, and we will use many individual cushions for seats. Windows will have thick curtains, but likely not blackout. Projection wall is fairly large, but I don't know how big of a screen I should limit myself to. The projector will have to hang from one of the load beams running across the ceiling, at either 9'7" (middle beam) or 13'6" (last beam) distance from screen wall. The screen will be from paintonscreen . c o m, and I'm looking at gray, since there will often be stage lighting during shows. The wall to the left of the projection screen is entirely glass, and holds an atrium art classroom, previously a balcony. Unsure if this is a factor, but might be for sound brightness. Speakers I'd like to do a 2.1 audio system, with wall mounted speakers. In the audio suggestion thread, I read about and liked the (prices of) the Dayton Sub-1500 and Klipsch R-12SW. Are these big enough to fill the room, without pissing off the restaurant, downstairs? I would like some discrete, but powerful speakers that won't break the bank. I liked a few in the suggestion thread, but they were mostly too expensive. What can you recommend?

Questions:

  • From which beam is best to hang the projector, middle or back?

  • Since the supporting beam is at an angle, what projector mount could you recommend?

  • What are your speaker and receiver recommendations?

  • How can I best smooth out the wall before screen painting?

  • What sorts of issues will I encounter with this strangely shaped space?

If I've forgotten anything, please let me know! I hope the pictures are easy to understand.

Thank you for your patience in reading this post, and I'm looking forward to your suggestions!
