I love nail polish. Currently, I own "only" 16 polishes (2 of them are top coats), and have a decent variety of colors I wear and enjoy. My manicures are pretty simple - one color, sometimes with a different one as accent nail. I'm not good with details and my hands are shaky so I can forget about doing a proper nail art, but recently I've gotten into more elaborate color pairings than I used to. The manicure that started it was black polish on my middle fingers, black polish with a blue glitter topping on the ring fingers and teal on the rest.
I loved it so much, I immediately started thinking of similar designs but in different color schemes, and what polishes would I need to buy for them. I have a fuchsia one and the already mentioned black, but don't have any pink glittery one. The shimmery bluish silver is beautiful but I don't have a clear silver glitter one.
But you know what? I do own enough polishes to make a bunch of different color designs without buying anything! Instead of buying a pink glitter one, I can use a darker purple I have. I can do the design with greens and reds and blues, using a lighter color or the black to change the vibes completely. And I even own some jars of craft glitter I can use if I really want a glitter polish I don't own (please never use craft glitter on your face, you can loose your eyesight!)
I finished 6 nail polishes this year (8ml size) and brought in 5 (some were replacements for staples) but as I was focusing on finishing my older ones, I didn't even touch the new ones. I have enough, and given my recent enchantment with the manicures using more colors, I can get equal use of what I already own and have a lot of fun figuring out different combinations.
Do I still miss some colors when doing my manicure? Yes, but they were on my mind for a while now and have nothing to do with my recent obsession. I will eventually buy them. But I have no valid reason to do it now when there are at least 5 perfect, untouched polishes in my stash.
