Metal Gear Solid movie casting

So I literally just subscribed to this sub, but it’s because I’ve been getting waaaay back into Metal Gear lately. Like a lot of you, I’m really intrigued about how the new MGS movie, helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is gonna go. To extend the hype to others, I’ve been starting to share my thoughts on who should play who in this supposedly sprawling, era-hopping epic. I’ve gotten a lot of yes’s, a lot of no’s, and a lot of hmmmmm’s. Some of these choices aren’t the definitive pick, and I’m sure a lot of people have much better ideas than I do. Hell, I’m still unsure about a lot of them. Also, a good amount of these characters probably won’t even be in the film, but it’s just food for thought. So here we go, I’ll give you my casting choice and why I would pick them. Let me know in the comments how you would’ve casted some of these roles and why, and also what you think about who I want to be in this movie. Ok, let’s go.

Christian Bale as Solid Snake: Now I know what you’re thinking — “It’s just because he was in the concept art!” — and you’d be wrong. This is a guy who I’ve been picturing as Solid Snake even before this project got the green light... I’m talkin’ Batman Begins days. He has the acting chops, he has the right physique, and he’s pretty committed to his roles, whatever they might be. Everything about him just oozes, ”Otacon, shut the hell up!”, and I loooove that they used that to their advantage in the concept art. It just heightens my excitement for the movie.

David Harbour as Naked Snake/Big Boss/Punished “Venom” Snake: This, by far, is my favorite casting choice. David is one of those underused talents who are just on the brink of getting a crapload of attention for their work (he plays Hopper in Stranger Things and is about to play Hellboy in early 2019). Out of all the Snakes that made me intent that Hayter should be Big Boss, it’d be Venom (I’m gonna avoid MGSV spoilers). By looks alone, David looks like Big Boss would be perfect for him, and his voice matches the character good, too. This guy has the genes of an amazing action star in him, and I think that this could be the break he needs.

Tom Cruise as Revolver Ocelot: Before they even showed the concept art for this movie, I was thinking a few things — one of them being that Tom Cruise needs to be in this damn movie. He’s the ultimate action star, and there’s one movie alone that can prove he could absolutely nail our beloved Ocelot: Collateral. This movie not only shows us that Cruise can play a villain, but also as a guy who doesn’t take any shit and knows exactly what he’s doing. Just watch the movie, and you can totally see Ocelot in there.

Tom Hiddleston as Liquid Snake: This kind of explains itself. Liquid has that conniving, slithery (pun) and malicious presence that makes him kind of an inspired choice in my mind, all cockiness aside. If he can play a god of mischief incredibly, he could easily pull off Liquid, and would definitely play off of Christian Bale’s hardiness (you know, because he’s SOLID Snake? 😂) quite well, making for a fine, fine villain. Also, Vogt-Roberts worked with Hiddleston on Kong: Skull Island, so this could be a real possibility.

Michael Fassbender as Gray Fox: This choice is interesting, because it really does feel look at some point, Fassbender will play that sort of “perfect soldier” archetype, so this very well may be the time he does just that. He has the physicality and looks for Cyborg Ninja, and all in all I think he would do great in the role.

Josh Brolin as Solidus Snake: This is if Solidus is in the movie. Josh wins this one by stature alone. I initially wanted him to play a certain Russian villain, but I kinda changed my mind. Brolin has had a hell of a year playing two hard-ass characters, and this would only make for another excellent addition to his growing reputation.

Tilda Swinton as The Boss: Oh my goodness, what a character. She’s one of the reasons why Snake Eater is one of my favorite games of all time. Tilda looks almost exactly like her, and she proves in Doctor Strange that she can play a badass with a loooooong, important history. She’s the only person I can see for this character, I feel like she would do great.

Jesse Eisenberg as Otacon: Not only is Otacon an annoying little dude, but he’s also awesome. Honestly, this fits the bill for the way Eisenberg plays characters, who are mainly fast-talking and comedic nerds, much like Otacon. Another possible pick would be Simon Pegg. He’s always been able to play a good nerd.

Dolph Lundgren as Volgin: This is pretty simple. I’m hoping a lot of people have seen Rocky IV, but ummm..., this guy just looks perfect for the role. He may be know for his cheesiness, but he might be able to show us his more dramatic chops in Creed II which comes out next year.

Rebecca Ferguson as Meryl Silverburgh: Ferguson is an upcoming jewel of an actress who would be able to nail Meryl’s badass nature down to a T. Seriously if you haven’t seen Mission: Impossible — Fallout, get your butts in the seats there because you’re in for a hell of a ride. Ferguson shows off her talents well in that film and in Rogue Nation.

Jeremy Irons as Zero: Jeremy Irons is just a perfect pick for such an interesting character such as ol’ Major Tom, himself. He probably wouldn’t be in the movie long, but he sure would have an impact.

Mark Hamill as The End: Ok. This is just a funny choice. This would probably be like a one minute encounter in the movie, but it’d be really cool to see it. And Mark can do anything, so yeah.

David Oyelowo as Drebin 893: David can have a really funny side to his portrayals, one that would be much needed for Drebin.

Cillian Murphy as Psycho Mantis: Just an interesting casting choice that’s been floatin’ through my head.

Unknown as Raiden: This is a character I love, but want to see him be portrayed by a fresh face. Someone almost completely new.

So there you have it... let me know what you think! :)
