Announcing TheExpanseLives.com and Community Projects!

Image summary of this post

Hey everyone!

It's hard to believe it wasn't so long ago that we were fighting tooth and nail to save our favorite show. Thank you all for being so vigilant and not giving up. What we all accomplished was truly historic, and everyone reading this should be proud.

During the campaign, a bunch of us teamed up and formed the @SaveTheExpanse team to help coordinate community efforts. This team ran the STE petition, website, and social media; managed the GFM campaigns, produced a bunch of promotional material, and even coordinated with the cast & crew. In that spirit, some of us were able to stick around and continue the work of the campaign to make sure nobody tries to cancel our show again continue promoting the show and its awesome fandom. Here's the rundown of what our plans are going forward.

TheExpanseLives.com

The Expanse Lives is a community project and spiritual successor to the SaveTheExpanse campaign. Infrastructurally, TEL will consist of a comprehensive fan site and our social media presence.

The website will provide a number of services, such as:

  • Blog - will report on the show and its development, promote fan content and initiatives, feature guest writers, etc
  • Community Calendar - will keep track of any and all Expanse and fan related events or important dates
  • Resources & Archives - a comprehensive database archiving any and all relevant Expanse content and media to assist creators, researchers and curious fans. If you wish to contribute, please submit items of interest using this form.
  • Fan Art Gallery - will allow artists and media creators to submit their work to be featured and promoted on our site

Here is a rough preview of what the website will look like. It's already mostly complete, and we are aiming to launch by the end of the month. Our multimedia team will also continue producing promotional material for the show as well as fan projects and initiatives.

Community Projects

The really exciting thing we're working on is bringing together everyone in the community to do what we did during the STE campaign, but on a long term basis. We want to encourage the production of interesting projects and initiatives while we wait for Season 4 and beyond, and help promote them using our platform and reach online. We are already working with many existing fan outlets and content creators, and we hope to encourage further collaboration and show everyone how creative and productive this community is.

TEL is just one such project. Check out our continuously updated Community Projects spreadsheet to see the current ongoing and proposed efforts. If you are already working on something we don't know about, or have a great idea you want to suggest, read on to find out how you can get involved.

Get Involved

If you'd like to contribute to TEL or any of the other projects, or pitch your own idea, please join us in the new #community-projects channel of the Unofficial Expanse Discord server. This is where we gather to talk about ideas and establish teams that want to work together. If you are unavailable to join us there but still have something you would like to be added to the list, feel free to reach out to us by any other means and let us know!

TEL in particular is looking for more web developers, visual/media artists, writers, and content curators to join our team. If you have time and skills you wish to contribute, you can contact us by pinging any of us in the channel (just type @TheExpanseLives), emailing us at crew@theexpanselives.com, or just posting here.

TL;DR

Here's a quick list of everything you need to know:

Thanks for reading! We're really excited and hope you are too. Please join us in our grand adventure and make some awesome stuff with us!

With love and gratitude,

The Expanse Lives Crew (Ed, Sverebom, DestinyPigeon, Caelo, it-reaches-out, Seckela, Katagatame, Tagerine, Skalman, Kiddle, Robert et al)
