** Note about the pictures: There may be some that have a weird blue light dot on them. This is not on any of the cards! It’s just the camera being reflected.
Mishra’s Workshop: I only use workshop for EDH and am not really exposed to real versions on a regular basis, so my firsthand experience is limited. However, I do have a VZ workshop and google for comparison purposes! What I noticed right off the bat about the WSG version is that the set symbol seems fatter than it should be. The other thing I noticed is that the art is a bit darker. Pay attention to the swirl patterns in the black. My photo may make them show up much more visibly but in person you have to squint a bit to see them. Now if you compare it to the swirls on real versions (like the 2 I posted in my album), you’ll see the difference I’m talking about. So yeah, fix that dark art so that the tiny details don’t disappear and re-do the set symbol.
The Abyss: Another card where my firsthand experience is limited. Overall- it’s pretty good, though. Might suffer a little from being a little too dark (make the white in the art a bit brighter?).
Nether Void: I showed initial pics in the Discord to have the art/look judged and the consensus seemed to be that it was ‘okay’. However, the set symbol is fucked up. It looks as if there are 2 symbols stacked on top of one another. I’d still play it in EDH (where else do you even play Nether Void lol), but if anyone takes a closer look they may notice the symbol.
Forcefield: Seems pretty good. No complaints from me.
Through the Breach: I have a VZ one to compare it to and I’ll start off by saying that both are not good. The WSG one’s set symbol is off. It’s too thin. The VZ set symbol is much closer to the real symbol. Next problem is the art color. Here is where both cards are horrible. The monster in the art of the WSG one is way too dark. Just a quick glance and I noticed how weird the super dark monster color was. Meanwhile, the VZ version is too light / pink. If WSG were to copy the set symbol from VZ and make the monster color be somewhere in between both of these versions (not too dark and not too light), it would be good.
Blightsteel Colossus: Seems pretty good. Nothing stands out to me that needs to be fixed.
Sword of Fire and Ice: Also seems pretty good.
Twilight Mire: Compared to the ones I have from VZ, I like these better. VZ Twilight Mire had this weird piss yellow color added to the green in the art that always made it look off. I think did a much better job at getting the correct color.
Serra’s Sanctum: Way too orange. Probably best to stay away from this one.
Platinum Emperion: This card had so much potential and looks great until you check out the P/T. The text is embarrassingly too thin and instantly noticeable. I was really hoping that WSG would nail this one because VZ’s version has a mediocre set symbol, but I’m going to have to stick to playing with my VZ versions. If WSG fixes the P/T text, it’ll be GP playable.
Sword of Feast and Famine: It looks pretty good until you realize that the set symbol is wrong. There’s supposed to be a tiny white border and spacing on each side of those diagonal pieces. Oddly enough, the same symbol on other WSG cards is fine. Not sure why it’s different here. Also, the equip mana cost and spell casting cost background color seems to be the wrong shade of grey. The side by side comparison pic is from a VZ version, but the up close pic of the equip cost coloring is from real versions.
Yawgmoth’s Will: Very happy with how this one turned out. It’s definitely the best proxy version I’ve seen.
Goryo’s Vegeance: Also very happy with how this one looks! Definitely GP playable.
Bitterblossom: I think it came out pretty decent and would be comfortable playing this in a GP setting. At first I thought the text was too bold, but I looked online and noticed how real MM2 versions had pretty bold text, too.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance: No criticisms here. I think it’s pretty solid.
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn: I have a real Emrakul for comparison, but it’s a ROE version. I also have a VZ proxy of the ROE one. Overall, I like the WSG version over the VZ one. The VZ one had too much white in the set symbol border. Way too thick. The dome of Emrakul’s head/body was also too purple and some of the tentacle art details were faded / not as visible and defined as they should be. Initially, I thought the text was too bold (similar to how I felt with the MM2 Bitterblossom). It is certainly a lot bolder than my ROE real version. However, I did some online research and once again realized that the MM2 version is actually supposed to be bolder. I guess it is a trend in the MM2 set. I’ve heard mixed opinions about these, but I’d play them in a GP, albeit a little cautiously.
Mox Opal: So people seemed to hype up the VZ version a lot. I listened to it all and bought a copy for myself and was pretty disappointed. The VZ one (7.0) had a slightly fuzzy set symbol that anyone could see if they picked the card up and the art seemed dulled / not as defined. With that being said, I am very happy with this WSG version and would recommend it over the VZ one. The set symbol is great as well as the rest of the card.
Bloodghast: The title text and type text (Creature – Vampire Spirit) look too bold. Probably fine for FNM, but I’d worry about bringing these to a GP.
Chains of Mephistopheles: My main complaint is that the rules text looks too bold. I’m sticking with my VZ version for now.
Creeping Tar Pit: Seems good. I’d say the WSG version is equal to the VZ version. Probably GP playable.
Teferi: They nailed it! The only thing they may want to work on is the mana cost symbols, but that is just me being super nit picky. Definitely GP playable and worth picking up 4x of these if you want to get on the Teferi hype train.
Exploration: Seems okay, no complaints from me. I think WSG is the only one to do the new Conspiracy art which is why I picked this up.
Gemstone Caverns: I think it’s solid and GP playable.
Kitchen Finks: Finally! A good finks! I have photos of my VZ version and you can instantly see the difference. The VZ one had a fuzzy set symbol and the overall card was a bit yellow / dull. The WSG has perfect colors and I have nothing to complain about. Pick up a playset and feel free to play them at any GP.
Kozilek, Butcher of Truth: Seems fine. I don’t really have any suggestions on how to improve it.
Leyline of the Void: Also fine. When they initially revealed the card in their youtube video, it was missing the set symbol. Luckily, we were able to tell them about it and they fixed it before they sent them out.
Runed Halo: I think the art coloring is off, but it’s also way off in VZ’s latest version, too. VZ’s version is super light. I prefer the WSG version, but it’s only FNM playable. Probably not yet ready for GP playability.
Scroll Rack: Another fine card.
Stomping Ground: I am so happy that we got a Stomping Ground with Gatecrash art and I’m even happier to report that it looks fucking amazing. Absolutely stunned by the quality. Definitely GP playable.
