Honestly, one of the quiestest months I can remember recently. Most of the “new releases” this month are either remasters or ports, and thus very little to discuss in the new releases section. I do however want to give a shoutout to the one new release I saw this month that caught my eye, which is Banner Saga 3, coming July 26th to PC, XB1, PS4, and Switch. A very fun tactical turn based strategy game with great art direction set in a world heavily inspired by Norse mythology, definitely check it out if that stuff interests you
In lieu of standard releases then, we can definitely talk about the biggest thing that happens each year in games, which is E3. E3 took place mid-June and there were tons of big games announced and revealed, so here’s a quick rundown:
Cyberpunk 2077 – The next game from CD Projekt Red, the developer that made The Witcher 3. This open world cyberpunk RPG looks to be awesome, and I can’t wait to play it. That being said, I can’t imagine it is released before 2020, even though they claim a late 2019 now – CDPR will def be trying to release it “when it’s ready”
The Elder Scrolls VI: Honestly, not much to say here. We all knew it was coming eventually, and we got no further details. This wait is going to be a while.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate: The next installment in the Nintendo classic fighting game is coming to Switch with the biggest roster of characters in the game’s history. Unfortunately, Waluigi won’t be included.
Death Stranding: The first game made by Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series, since acrimoniously leaving Konami. Were light on details at this point but the hype is real
Battle Royale in everything – not going to talk about these games individually, but both CoD and the next Battlefield game will be getting Battle Royale modes like Fortnite. This is clearly the next big fad in gaming, the only question is if any of them will be able to equal or surpass the juggernaut that is Fortnite.
The Last of Us 2: The followup to the amazing zombielike game that is heavy on story and character development, there are going to be tons of expectations for this one to live up to. Definitely looking forward to it.
Fallout 76: There are still TONS of questions surrounding this game, namely: what is it? Is it a survival game like Ark or Rust? How online is it? Is there going to be a deep story like other Fallout games? We’re only a few months away from release and many of these have yet to be answered. I will say personally, Im very lukewarm to the idea as a longtime Fallout fan, but for all I know it could be great. All that’s for certain is that it will be VERY different
Halo: Infinite: It’s a new Halo game! However, since Bungie left the franchise to work on Destiny, it’s definitely a question as to how good this game will be. We will have to wait and see.
Spiderman: This one is coming out very soon – this September. Hopefully they nail the web slinging mechanics and it really lets you embrace the freedom of movement that Spiderman should have moving across the city. If they do, it should be awesome
There are a whole bunch of other games that are awesome and look great, but I can’t highlight them all, but feel free to discuss what you’re looking forward to the most in the comments – lots of good stuff on the horizon.
