The Power Boss Compilation: Fierce and Professionally-Wearable Attire, Inspired by the Baddest Bitches

I am sure a lot of you who work in professional offices are in the same boat as I am. While so many of the posts in this sub showcase really amazing and edgy outfits, they are not totally realistic for our kind of workplace. I work at a law firm that works with government issues – this is the double whammy of boring, ill-fitting black suits. It can be easy to get stuck in the “work clothes” rut.

The millennial generation is coming up in the workforce, and I believe this is slowly making tattoos, wild hair, and cool outfits more acceptable. But as KILLER as some of these looks are, we don’t work in a casual place, and we don’t work in an art house in Manhattan. Regrettably, I can’t show up to work in a sexy fitted blazer with no shirt and strategically displayed cans (WHY is this such a common google image search??). Nor can I add a pencil skirt to a t-shirt and say, “ta-da! It’s professional now!” I can’t even wear jeans to work!

I wanted to create an album that wasn’t just “inspo”, but was full and complete items you could wear to work as-is. Only a couple of these outfits would require some modifications for me personally. I also tried to find more diverse models and it was SUPER difficult. I guess that’s common knowledge but it was frustrating for me. I have included a few examples of my own simpler outfits as well! Please forgive me for the super-instagram-y poses.

This compilation is all about power. We want this outfit to say, “I’m extremely professional and here to do the important work things”, but imply that maybe after work I’ll be fighting crime? Towering over a business rival as he concedes to all of my company’s terms? Putting my spectacular heel on the throat of an insubordinate henchman? Who’s to say.

We aim for lots of monochromatic, black white & gray, with occasional pops of sharp, cool colors. I also find it easy to mix and match my pieces by sticking to this color scheme.

We make classic outfits shine with “a little something extra”. We look for interesting textures or features. Leather, lace, metallic, velvet, mesh panels or cut-outs, creative necklines or sleeves, and simple geometric patterns are our friends. Bring on the shoulderpads! Give me crisp white pumps!

It’s 1986. I’m the CEO of a wildly powerful international corporation that specializes in probably-not-evil super-science robot stuff. My nails are sharp and glossy, and I definitely speak Mandarin.

I’m the only woman in an all-male secret intelligence agency. The men thought they could push me around, but BOY ARE THEY IN FOR A RUDE AWAKENING. Cause I’m actually the best damned analyst in this Agency, DAVE, and I’m about to bust this high-profile criminal trafficking case wide open.

This is Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson. This is Claire Underwood. This is Ellen Ripley, if she left her harrowing ordeal aboard the Nostromo and returned to earth for a hostile takeover of the Weyland Corporation.

I hope you enjoy! https://imgur.com/a/a5HhHzJ
