Wew boy, we're nearing the finish line everyone! I'll try to get the last part out tomorrow, but it may be pushed back because I have work and what not. For sure, it should be posted by Wednesday though (thank you Fourth of July for a day off work).
If you missed the first part, you can find it here. If you want to go to the second part, you can find it here.
This is Halloween, this is Halloween, everybody make a scene! In general, people loved the creativity that went into this banner and felt that the artwork was good. As for the complaints… well you guys can probably already guess what the two major complaints were, can’t you? An overview of the results can be seen here.
*
Nowi (Average Rating: 2.78, Standard Deviation: 1.41 – 4.15)
Nowi was the lowest rated unit on this banner for a rather obvious reason: being a “loli” character in an outfit that is too fanservice-y. Her rating was even lower than Elise’s, who faced the same criticism. Beyond the outfit, some also felt that she looked too “cartoony” for the game. But in spite of the overwhelmingly negative reaction, there were still a decent number of users who gave her a good score. They stated that they liked how colorful and expressive her art was, and that a flying unit on a broom was a creative idea. Aspects of her design they enjoyed included her giant hat and sleeves, and although they did not necessarily approve of her top, they felt that at least faithful to her original outfit.
My Hot-Take: (3/5) I’ve never really liked the fact that Nowi not only looked the part of a kid but also acted the part of a kid despite being “1000 years old.” As such I was never really comfortable with her wearing suggestive clothing, and this is no exception. While I can’t fault the design too much for being faithful to her default outfit, it doesn’t mean I can’t still be mad they didn’t add a black shirt underneath or it something. But onto the things I like, her coloring is amazing! It’s so vibrant, and the purple in her clothes matches her eyes. Plus, the idea of a being a flying unit on a broom is too darn adorable for me to rate her too badly.
*
Jakob (Average Rating: 3.41, Standard Deviation: 2.29 – 4.53)
My husband deserves better than this. As expected, Jakob was mostly slammed for having Fujiwara Ryo artwork. Users stated that although his artwork wasn’t bad, it felt rather generic. His expression didn’t feel like Jakob, and the Frankenstein’s monster theme felt a little weak in its execution. That aside, users did feel that his costume was appropriately Halloween-ish, and he still retained the look of a butler. His electric bow was also well-received. Some people felt that his ball-and-chains were sufficient enough to explain his armored status, while others did not.
My Hot-Take: (4/5) I have a weakness for butler characters, so of course I like his design. It’s an interesting cross between his original outfit and Frankenstein’s monster (in fact he kind of reminds me of Dr. Franken Stein from Soul Eater). I also thought that the shackles around his wrist and the ball-and-chain around his ankles was clever and really gave the feeling that he was restricted in movement. The only reason I couldn’t give him a 5/5 was that his artwork was good, but it wasn’t stupendous. I think Fujiwara could have done a little more with the coloring or added some extra texture to his patchwork skin.
*
Sakura (Average Rating: 3.94, Standard Deviation: 2.94 – 4.94)
Although Sakura was a young character like Elise or Nowi, she was better received because her outfit felt more age appropriate. People thought her costume was cute and had some great colors. The Hoshidian aspects in her outfit with its theme and pattern was also appreciated, as were her cat ears. Those who disliked her costume had two main reasons: (1) her outfit looked too similar to her original one or (2) she looked like a person doing a generic cat girl cosplay (i.e. not very Halloween-y).
My Hot-Take: (4/5) My favorite thing here was the coloring! The pinks were lovely and the shading was well done. Her shawl was so cute with its cherry blossom pattern, and you can just feel the softness of the fur. What detracts from her score though is that she didn’t feel very Halloween-y. Instead she felt more like someone throwing on cat ears a at con and calling it a cosplay.
*
Henry (Average Rating: 4.03, Standard Deviation: 3.04 – 5.02)
Refreshingly enough, the best rated unit on a banner was not a female this time. Mostly everyone felt that the costume was extremely appropriate for Henry, and had a great Halloween feel to it. The Plegian elements in his costume were appreciated, as was his crow friend. Compared to Jakob, a lot more people agreed that his coffin was enough justification for his armored status even though there were still those who didn’t buy into it. A few people felt that he looked too generic, but otherwise not many flaws were pointed out.
My Hot-Take: (5/5) Henry as a vampire is so incredibly suiting considering how bloodthirsty he is. I like how he retains a lot of Plegian elements in his costume. Having a happy little crow friend and a gigantic coffin in his artwork add a lot to the piece as well. His special and damage expressions are great, and I really have little to complain about aside from maybe his legs being too noodlelike (Kusugi was the fifth member of CLAMP, don’t you know?).

Some detailed comments:
I hate Jakob's art. It's no base Cordelia, don't get me wrong, but it's so boring to look at. There's no details, the coloring is flat as shit, the outfit is uninteresting. It's bad. That's all. Gets a 2 instead of a 1 because at least the proportions are there.
Henry's art is perfectly cute, particularly his special attack art. I also love the design of using a coffin to make him into an armored unit! Makes total sense and it's super smart. It's really good, but I also wouldn't think of it when I have to think of the best art in this game.
Nowi's coloring is some of my absolute favorite in the whole game - the artist is completely unafraid to use vibrant as shit colors to depict shadows, and it results in a really energetic piece, which is perfect for such a cheerful character as Nowi! However, we're also rating the design, and I think her outfit is unnecessarily naked. She could have easily worn a short dress (like Sakura's length, for example), and still appealed to those that wanna bang her, staying true to her personality, and not having her be in yet another glorified bikini. It also would make more sense for the witch costume, since they're not known for their booty shorts and long-sleeved bras. The boots and sleeves are precious though.
Sakura's art is so good! There's not that much to say - it's a completely adorable outfit, the design both stays true to her as a character and her costume while making an interesting twist on it (not just kitty, but Hoshidian kitty, blending in eastern aesthetics with the attire). Her shading is great, and her poses are perfectly cute without being absolutely static. They're not extremely dynamic, but if they were, it would make no sense with her character. Overall, fantastic art! I pulled for her just for her art.
*
Jakob's is pretty fantastic. He has that nice butler look on, so he can still identify as a servant. The ball-and-chain also help add to his costume as a monster. Art is good for what he is, at least compared to his OG FEH art.
Henry's outfit is really good too. The coffin is great for his morbid sense of humour, a crow is there as his friend, just like in Awakening, and the outfit fits his personality. I'd definitely see him wearing this.
Sakura's outfit looks like a low-budget cosplay. It's just really plain.
I can hear the sirens heading in your direction, Nowi.
*
Nowi: I really love Nowi, and she's still the cutest manakete. Also, cats appear in her special art, which is also great. If you think about making police joke, I'll hunt you down and slap you in the face for thinking about making such a tired joke.
Jakob: Something ryoface something. Kind of bland, which is a shame because original Jakob has amazing art.
Sakura: She's adorable. Also her sprite doing the paw pose is the cutest thing.
Henry: He just looks good.
*
Nowi's artwork is really nice, and fits her fine. People who complained about it were just looking for another reason to throw Nowi fans under the pedo-bus. And for what it's worth I don't like Nowi at all, but not because 'she's obviously only 1000 years old so lolicon's and pedo's can marry her'. I really like her hat and broom design most though.
The rest of them just don't stand out to me. Henry and Jakob I feel like I'm biased against though since I don't think either of them should be armor units, and that might be affecting my decision. Honestly the artwork is nice, but I just can't see as them being armored units.
*
"Its too cute! Its disgusting!" - An accurate description of Sakura. Moving on.
I've always liked Henry. His weirdly happy smile while murdering people is oddly charming and his art here shows that. The big grin on his face while he's carrying a casket and holding a crow are just exactly him and its great. The tattered cape and his almost scrawny figure also fit his vampire theme perfectly.
Jakobs design I initially found kinda boring. But I've warmed up to it. The ghostly white cape and tattered suit coupled with the ball and chain make him look like a refined monster. However, I still have one issue with his face. This may be an issue with the artist as they're known for drawing their characters with the same face (Robin, Seth, Joshua etc) and it definitely effects the art here.
Nowi is... just awkward. The design itself is mostly fine, with the witch attire looking cute on her but my biggest issue (and this is the same for regular Nowi) is the weird two strap top and short shorts. I know she's over 1000 years old buts its just awkward to look at. Outside of that the pastel art style is a little to uplifting to work for a Halloween banner.

Shout-out to these comments:
You're probably going to get a lot of negative feedback RE: Nowi's outfit and the sexualization of a minor… (you don’t even know the half of it buddy…)

2/5, Didn't know Robin got a Halloween alt. (in reference to Jakob)
*
SAKURA BEST GIRL
*
Jakob is a lame husband for straight women who have no taste. (me)
Next up is the Christmas banner, a.k.a. a whale’s wet dream. The units had outfits that were mostly based on their original design but with a holiday twist, which was mostly a boon for their ratings. Responders liked that the units all looked festive and happy, but of course they had to beg the question: why are all of them armored units?
*
Lissa (Average Rating: 4.27, Standard Deviation: 3.36 – 5.18)
The star of this banner, Lissa was well loved for her warm and inviting design capturing the holiday spirit perfectly. Being based off her original design was a definite point in her favor, especially with the crinoline. In general, people felt that she was adorable, and the only complaint voiced by some was that her outfit looked too busy.
My Hot-Take: (5/5) Lissa is cute as a button in her lovely Christmas outfit, which retains elements of her original outfit like the crinoline and frilly apron. Despite how much is going on with her outfit, from all the stars and baubles to the bough of holly on her collar, it all comes together with a cohesive theme. Not to mention she looks like she’ll actually be staying warm with those clothes.
*
Chrom (Average Rating: 4.17, Standard Deviation: 3.26 – 5.08)
The Ylissean royalty sure are popular! Chrom scored well for looking handsome and muscular, and a lot of users stated that this was their favorite iteration of Chrom as drawn by Ebila. While the sentiment was not as strong as it was with Lissa, people still considered his outfit to be a good spin off his original design (though let’s be real, most of us were looking at his biceps rather than his outfit anyways). There were no real gripes with Chrom; at worst people felt his outfit was too similar to his original.
My Hot-Take: (5/5) Forget fruit cake, we’ll be having beefcake for Christmas! I love seeing how much Ebila has improved in their artwork going from original Chrom to Spring Chrom to Christmas Chrom. His outfit actually reminds me a little more of his Tokyo Mirage Session form than his original one due to his tunic being lengthened, and that’s perfectly fine by me since I love his TMS version as well. He’s also got some other alterations besides a color change, such as one of the belts across his chest being swapped for a striped ribbon, that really makes it a joy to look at. And his arms… those biceps alone get a 5/5.
*
Tharja (Average Rating: 2.87, Standard Deviation: 1.44 – 4.30)
Responses are as you’d expect: people hated the bikini. Although it is based off her original outfit, people felt that her original clothes were only justified by the fact she lived in the desert, and that a self-conscious character like Tharja would not be strutting around in this outfit. The fact that it’s a Christmas banner and that she’s an armored unit only added fuel to the fire. As a side note, people also felt her forehead was drawn too big. But getting away from all that, there were elements of her outfit that people liked such as her reindeer antlers and starry cape.
My Hot-Take: (2/5) My poor child… she does not deserve this treatment, IS. The outfit would be cute if it was on a Victorian Secret model, since I really like the starry pattern inside of her cape and the reindeer headband. But alas, it is on Tharja (who is even stated to be unable to tolerate Feroxi’s winters in her ending with Lon’qu). The final nail in the coffin is how ridiculously massive her head is. You could land an airplane on her forehead.
*
Robin (M) (Average Rating: 3.51, Standard Deviation: 2.36 – 4.66)
Robin was a big ol’ mixed bag compared to the other three. On the one hand, we have responders who loved how happy and dorky he looked; on the other hand, we have responders who thought he looked way too goofy. Similarly, opinions on his mittens and pose were also divided. As expected, people complained about the Fujiwara Ryo art, although many acknowledged that they thought this was at least Ryo’s best work. Similar to Summer Robin, responders liked the incorporation of his tactician coat, albeit that contributed to the criticism that the outfit was not different enough from his base design.
My Hot-Take: (5/5) He’s got his arms up in the “guess I’ll die” pose and that appeals to my meme queen sensibilities. In the same vein as Chrom, Robin’s outfit keeps a lot of his base aspects and adds some festive flair to them. His tactician coat is so adorable with all the ornaments hanging off of it and the fur lining! There’s a lot of small details there, like the star pattern on his boots or the striped ribbon in place of the tassel that holds his coat together. And for some reason, I really like the way his black undershirt looks in his damage art. Great smile in his special art as well, he’s full of cheer!
*
Some detailed comments:
To this day, Christmas Robin still has my favorite seasonal design of them all. At first glance, it seems a bit lazy that they just turned his signature cloak red and called that an alt, but I just love how a simple color change makes him so much more festive. He's super adorable and I love him. When he was leaked back in May of last year, I fell in love right away.
*
Chrom's art is great! It stays true to his character, while also using much more dynamic poses than his previous renditions by this point. His proportions are better, and he looks a lot more like Chrom. I love the details on his clothes, and it stays true to his original design, while also making it clearly holiday-inspired. Overall, there's little to nothing that I'd change from this art. He also makes sense as an armored unit, even if it's pushing it slightly.
Lissa's art is so good! The artist did a stellar job with the fluffy trim of this outfit, as it really has a tactile look to it. Her hair is really well-rendered, and the artist shows a good use of atmospheric perspective to depict what's further from the viewer. Overall, this art is just really good! Her cage dress justifies her armor status the best out of all units in this group.
Jesus, where do you even begin with Tharja. Okay, the art is cute - the artist did a pretty good job with depicting her, and I think her face is precious. Now, the design is what absolutely tanks the score. What the hell is this outfit? How in the hell is she an armored unit? There's absolutely no justification for her being an armored unit in any sense. Why is she wearing a bikini in winter? She's from Plegia, a desert region, you think of all people, she'd be the most covered up during the snowy winter of Ylisse. This outfit is I think the most blatant fanservice IS has ever done. Why is she in this particular set of chosen characters? Frederick and her should have changed position in their banners, as a Chapter 1 Awakening banner of characters for winter would have made more sense. And with this outfit, Tharja would have done amazingly in the summer banner!
Robin's art is fucking boring. His design is uninspiring. At least Lissa and Chrom made an interesting twist on their base outfits, adding a noticeable amount of embellishments. This just looks like a holiday recolor of his standard outfit with a strange hemline on his coat. Outside of the coat, there's not any changes to his outfit. Sure, he has gloves and they smacked some little cotton balls on his boots, but this is so boring. At least his smile is cute, and his proportions are fine, which keeps him from being a 1.
*
lissa - great art, love the use of colour; the festive spin on her dress is done really well! lissa as a character works well with the festive theme too because of how cheerful she is
chrom - "red is not my colour" it's not, but he's still rocking it
tharja - "normal" tharja as a concept is hilarious and is a nice callback to her supports in awakening, but imo her outfit is distasteful and nonsensical and a bad example of how to design female fanservice
robin - not terribly fond of this art style but he looks so ridiculously happy that i can't not like this unit
*
Most of these are just their regular clothing dyed red with some white trim. While cute, it doesn't feel like there was a lot of effort put into them. However, I do love what they did with Lissa's hoop skirt! She's adorable. Tharja's design is a mess. Her cloak's hemline is misshapen, the bikini is demeaning and ugly, and thigh highs with a bikini is a terrible look. The reindeer horns are cute, I suppose.
*
Tharja's is my favorite. Its sexy and appeals to a number of design fetishes at once (midriff, thighs, thigh-highs, two-piece) which is perfect for a fan favorite like her. While it looks like it’s an outfit out of character, she is basically wearing her normal outfit minus the body suit.
*
Lissa looks great but I have to remove a point since no artist ever, outside of Zaza, has gotten her eye colour correct. She has grey eyes, guys!!
Chrom actually looks like Chrom here but is still a little skinny.
Tharja's outfit is 1:1 her dark mage outfit but with Xmas stuff. Don't like Tharja nor the neoFE dark mage designs. Loses by default.
Probably Ryou's worst work. Lineart is sloppy and rushed. Robin looks lumpy in places. The poor use of defining space makes his collar fuse with his right shoulder. The tree looks awful: the ornaments are all misshapen, the colouring is just a spray paint brush with the actually round ornaments and the bows being a copypasta.
*
My biggest gripes with the Winter's Envoy banner had to do with all of them being armored. Lissa looks great, but the bare shoulders seem stupid on an otherwise warm-looking outfit. Not sure what making her so heavy, though--this could have easily been an infantry axe unit. Chrom also suffers from exposed skin, but it at least matches his original design more. Otherwise, it's kind of a standard "Santa" seasonal outfit. Tharja... Tharja looks bloody cold here. And correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't she embarrassed in Awakening when she realized just how exposing her Dark Mage outfit was? There's no way she'd dress like this, even for Robin--she'd be dead within an hour and she knows that. Sure, maybe the Candelabra is "magical", but it just feels like trying to excuse blatant Tharja fanservice at that point for me. Robin seems perfectly dressed for the weather. It's a little more interesting for me than Chrom's design with its multiple layers, but it has far less of an excuse to be an armored unit.

*
Robin's art tells a story, a story of a man who was asked to get a christmas tree and arrived with the smallest one he could find. He knows what he's done and he feels no remorse.
Our first seasonal banner for 2018! After all the hype over the Christmas units, responses were definitely more lukewarm this time around. Users generally liked the clothing for both their design and color, yet they felt no one was particularly eye catching and that the poses were mostly uniform. An overview of the results can be seen here.
*
Azura (Average Rating: 3.94, Standard Deviation: 2.95 – 4.93) Azura had mixed reception in regards to her color palette. Some liked that her kimono matched her hair color, others felt that she needed darker colors in her design. There were also those who felt her coloring was too bright. Beyond that, most liked the pattern in her kimono, as well as the flower in her hair. The ‘X’ on her face also caused some confusion for those who didn’t know the context for it (for those are curious, scroll down to “hanetsuki” on this page), but those who did appreciated that detail in her art.
My Hot-Take: (4/5) Her kimono is so pretty, and I appreciate the references to her default outfit with the circular designs, frilly hem, and pendant wrapped around her obi. The red in her sleeves and shoes add a nice contrast in color, but I would have liked a different shade of blue for her kimono as it blends too much with her hair. Aside from that, I think the hagoita itself looks pretty, and the ‘X’ on her face in her damage art is also a fun little detail!
*
Takumi (Average Rating: 3.99, Standard Deviation: 3.02 – 4.96)
Although Takumi didn’t quite break the 4.00 ceiling, he was still the best rated unit on this banner. Positivity towards him stemmed from having Tobi artwork and a good color palette. In particular, people liked his dark blue haori, scarf, and mochi. There were some who felt he looked too cartoony or had a boring design, but those were relatively rare.
My Hot-Take: (4/5) Gorgeous colors and patterns. I enjoy the prominent Hoshidian symbols on his haori, and his hair being tied with the same red-and-white strips of paper as the ones under his kagami mochi is a great touch. The only thing holding him back from a perfect score is that his clothes don’t really callback to his original outfit. Maybe adding in tassels or red cross stitches would have been good?
*
Camilla (Average Rating: 3.74, Standard Deviation: 2.63 – 4.85)
Considered the poorest choice for this banner, which also led her to be the lowest rated unit on this banner. Still, her rating is not all that bad and a lot of people appreciated that her outfit this time around was not as blatantly fanservice-y as with her spring version, citing her fur neck warmer and kadomatsu as things they liked. However, that didn’t stop some from still feeling that she was still pandering with her ill-fitting kimono still emphasizing her breasts and legs. Furthermore, a few responders stated that her face looked strange.
My Hot-Take: (2/5) I’m not a fan of the way Camilla looks, especially in her damage art. Her personality isn’t there the way it is in her original artwork, and she ends up looking like some generic fanservice girl. Otherwise, she looks regal with her fur neck wrap and dark red haori in her neutral art, even if the outfit doesn’t include a lot of personal details about Camilla aside from the camellia flowers.
*
Corrin (M) (Average Rating: 3.81, Standard Deviation: 2.80 – 4.82)
Although Corrin was considered to have a plainer design than his siblings, there were still a lot of elements in his design that caught people’s eyes. His red scarf in particular popped against the cooler colors in his clothes, and the Lilith drawing on his ema was considered a great touch. Moreover, people stated liking his expressions and his damage art.
My Hot-Take: (4/5) A precious boy. Maiponpon gives such a flow and life to this clothes that I really admire, and the contrast of his red scarf and blue kosode against his white haori is simple yet effective. Plus, the way his kosode opens up in his damage art… 👀👀👀 He has some small personal details, like the clasp in his scarf (it’s the same as the ornament in female Corrin’s hairband) and the image of Lilith on his ema. But as with summer Corrin, this piece doesn’t have enough aspects that are unique to Corrin.
*
Some detailed comments:
azura - colour palette is a bit awkward but overall a good seasonal unit takumi - LOVE the colours, the way he's drawn, and works well considering his love for hoshido camilla - definitely a bizarre choice of character given the theme but her art is my favourite out of the camillas, probably because the illustration here is more tasteful and not so glaringly about the size of her badonkers corrin - his damaged art is ADORABLE and for that alone he gets a 5/5
*
All four characters have strong artwork, but I just love the color schemes for Azura and M!Corrin the best; M!Corrin in particular really takes the silver and dark blue of his regular outfit, but then adds the red scarf as a perfect pop of color to just be the most visually distinct of the New Year's outfits. I also really like how Azura incorporates a more Fates-design in her under kimono's collar which makes her overall kimono feel more fresh. Takumi and Camilla look very nice, but they don't grab me quite as strongly as Azura and M!Corrin, though I think Camilla's has the best art of all her versions.
*
Worst (2): I know a lot of gals and guys like Airzura's design, but personally I'm just not feeling the head-to-toe same color thing they're trying to go for here…
Best (5): If I only saw his neutral art, Corrin would just be a 4 with his great colors and bright smile. What bumps him up to 5 for me is the chest flash in his damaged art. I like this sort of cheeky way of presenting fan service. I also really like the expression he has in his damage art, it expresses so much without even needing words XD. His art is just overall very endearing.
*
One of my favorite banners. I think that Azura and Takumi represent the "cartoony" style done at its best, where realism is somewhat foregone, but the texture and color really stands out and makes it appear to have more depth and substance. Corrin's art is a bit boring and bland. Camilla's outfit is gorgeous and I like that they managed to find a way to portray her as sexy without being grotesquely fanservicey like her base unit (and Spring Unit) is. The fur! The skirt! Wonderful.
*
An attempt has been made to make the units look vaguely appropriate for the setting! Hallelujah!
I don't have much to say on this banner. The units look nice, though are not terribly inspiring or thought-provoking.
I gave Camilla a minor penalty for that blatant show of leg. I can forgive the cleavage, because she's a busty woman, but there's no need (aside from fanservice) to show her leg halfway up her thigh.
*
I love blue, and it's a big part of why I loved Azura/Shigure's PA outfits so much, but I don't like this particular blue much on Azura. It too closely matches her hair, so it's a bit overwhelming/jarring. I do, however, really like the actual design of the kimono, I just wish the color was different.
I don't even like Takumi much, but he actually looks the best in the banner to me. Normally I don't care for male kimonos, because female ones just have so much more detail and variety, but somehow I like both of the boys kimonos better than the girls. I just love the ombre, color-variety in his kimono, and the details. Plus his hair and face look really nice.
I like Camilla a lot, so I wish I liked her seasonals more. I think my issue with this unit is just that I want to see the kimono, because kimonos are beautiful, but she's covered so much. it's like... breasts, huge whatever in hands, and barely any visible kimono. The sleeves look gorgeous, so I'd love to see the entire thing, but I can't and that's frustrating, because I love nice women's fashion.
I admittedly really an not a Corrin fan, but I think he actually looks really good here. I like the red and blue in jewel tones. It's subtle but impactful. Heck, even his dumb hair doesn't look so bad. I also like the white outer layer or whatever it is, because the subtle designs on it are lovely.
*
Azura - There’s not much different to say from this Azura compared to the last Azura since the artist is the same and they stay pretty consistent in their art. Her outfit is a shade of blue I love and I like the subtle hints of colors around her outfit that lead back to colors of her weapons and therefore don’t make it so out of place.
Takumi - I absolutely adore this artist so there’s not surprise I would also rate Takumi highly. All the colors are really pretty and I think the texture of the artist works especially well with Takumi and the Hoshidan aesthetic.
Camilla - Now this is a Camilla alt I can really love. She’s a lot of covered yet it doesn’t take away from her beauty which is what I want out of Camilla designs.
Corrin - He just looks absolutely adorable in his outfit and I like all the subtle hints of his original outfit scattered around. Also Lilith is expressive in all the artworks and I just love that attention to detail.
