Just to preface, I've been looking forward to Hollow Knight for ages. I was checking Team Cherry's twitter every two days since they confirmed it was feature-complete in June of last year, and I seriously cannot get enough of it. Everything just screams quality, and it's quickly become one of my favourite games of all time.
But maaaan, I was ready to throw my Switch earlier. I entered the White Palace, and while certain parts took a few attempts, I thought it was pretty easy for the most part. Then I just randomly decided to slash a wall, and it broke... and as soon as I saw the name 'Path of Pain', I knew I was in for a bad time. But holy shit, I didn't realize just how bad it was going to be. What followed was some of the hardest platforming I've ever had to do. The game turned into Super Meat Boy for the two hours it took me to finish it, and even then, I never needed quite this many attempts for some of the harder levels in SMB. Luckily I had the Hiveblood charm equipped, so I basically had infinite tries on the sections without one of those soul-giving statues.
The early sections were one thing, but that final horizontal section at the end with the spikes that pop up and down and the saw blades... I seriously never thought I was going to finish it. After twenty or thirty attempts, I got the entire sequence down, except for the part near the end where you have to dash under the saw blade while avoiding that super fast one on the bottom, and then mid-air-jump up to continue bouncing off the stationary blade. The one that moves is just so ridiculously fast, so I couldn't get the timing down. After another fifty tries, I was ready to give up... and then I fluked it. Couldn't believe it. Freaked out a bit when I saw the enemies at the bottom, but they went down pretty fast using Descending Dark and nail arts.
Anyway, sorry for the essay, I just thought I'd share my triumph and excitement! Now to get back to hunting down the 20% completion that I'm missing. :D
