I know the amazing RoA team is probably in the process of finalizing the last DLC character already, but just in case the decision isn't made yet, I'd like to make my case for The Knight.
1) Hollow Knight and Rivals are easily two of the best indie games out right now, so seeing the two cross paths would be absolutely amazing. If you haven't played the game yet, it's well worth the money, and you'll see how easily he could fit into Rivals.
2) Art style: He is a bug, so he fits the animal theme, and the artwork would be simple yet beautiful to replicate. Also, as the second guest character, his black and white color scheme would match well with Ori, and his dark energy would contrast perfectly with Ori's light energy. Plus, messing around with his color scheme would result in such cool options.
3) He has a move-set that would translate seamlessly to Rivals; in Hollow Knight, he controls as if he were in a platform fighter:
Normals:
· Tilts, Jab, and Aerials = Normal directional nail slashes
· F-Strong = Great slash
· Down-Strong = Cyclone Slash
· Up-Strong = Up-Directional Great Slash Maybe?
· Dash-Attack = Dash Slash
Passive:
Normal attacks build up SOUL meter; need SOUL to use special attacks or spells. Passives are one of my favorite things about this game that makes it so unique.
Specials:
· Neutral-Special (Holding) = Focus - recovers health after slowly charging, which would be cool because no character has health recovery yet
· Neutral-Special (Tap/Aerial) = Howling Wraiths
· Side-Special = Vengeful Spirit (projectile)
· Down-Special = Desolate Dive
· Up-Special = Monarch Wings (doesn't require SOUL and does not put him into Special fall)
Others:
· Air-Dodge = Mothwing Cloak
· Wall Jump = Mantis Claw (allows him to cling to wall briefly, similar to Ori and Maypul. Possibly allowed multiple successive wall-jumps to aid in recovery options)
· Parry = Baldur Shell Charm
· Taunt = Pulls his Nail out to challenge, like he does before the Mantis Lords boss fight
Overall Fit:
His move-set gives him range and strength, but he's slow with little aerial mobility, fitting in as the semi-grounded-zoner from the character chart. The SOUL attacks could be very strong, but the passive would prevent them from being spammable, as you would need to continuously use normal attacks to build up more.
4) He would be another sword (technically nail) character, which is always cool.
5) He offers so many new stage options, from the City of Tears to the Colosseum of Fools, there are infinte platform options. Even a stage that cycled through each of the different areas in the background would be cool and could show off the artwork and variety of characters from the game.
I think this is the end of my case. Seeing this happen would be a perfect finalization of my favorite platform fighter.
Let me know what you guys think! I can't wait to find out who the final fighter will be!
P.S. I'll also be happy if it's Car from Rocket League
