Congratulations to your Asian Champions: RamPaGe Gaming
So it's been a few days since the CoD: WWII Asia Championships 2018 have ended, but why not discuss the tournament, the teams, and the scene in general. As the event is run by ESL and does not have it's own official thread, I've taken the liberty consolidate the entire event into a quick write-up as I had the opportunity to attend it live. Feel free to discuss anything about the tournament and scene; I'll try my best to answer as much as I can.
OVERVIEW
The event happened on Saturday, May 12 and was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the third annual CoD Asia Champs, with the past two being held in Taiwan and Korea. The venue used was the Battle Arena internet cafe in the Jaya Shopping Center. Four teams were invited through two online qualifiers held in April. The tournament utilised a double elimination bracket with all series being a best-of-three except for the finals, which were a best-of-five. The winner of it all is treated to $12,000 USD of the total $20,000 USD prize pool, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to travel and compete in the upcoming CWL Anaheim major event.
TEAMS
RamPaGe Gaming - Coming into the tournament with the first seed and as the favourites was the established team, RamPaGe Gaming. This roster is stacked with talent with all their players boasting past experience in multiple LAN events.
Roster:
Avarice Gaming - Arguably the second best team coming into the tournament, Avarice Gaming was a team put together with veterans of the CoD SEA scene. Multiple players have found themselves teaming with former RamPaGe players in the past and are on the caliber of the top SEA players.
Roster:
Venom - The hometown favourites, Venom consists of a Malaysian line-up asides from Korean veteran player, Artshot. Like RamPaGe Gaming, this team has been in the scene for some time and has been laying dormant until this event was announced.
Roster:
-
Rainyz
-
ArtShot
ItsNutty - *A completely new and pick-up team formed solely to compete in this tournament, ItsNutty is the underdog team with players from Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines. Calling themselves the "champions of the people", ItsNutty found themselves with a massive uphill battle.

TL;DR
I understand completely that six hours of a tournament vod might be too much for people to take in at a time, so in the interest of time I'll do a quick recap of how the tournament went starting with the first seed, RamPaGe Gaming. As expected, this time was dominant, not dropping a single map and absolutely wiping the competition out. The finals however, were an incredible bashing where they would 100-point club, 6-0 in the SnD, and win the CTF up 5-1 against the runner-ups, Avarice Gaming.
Avarice Gaming looked strong coming in, but would have close and nail-biting matches with Venom in the first round as well as RamPaGe during the winner finals. After a decently close series against Venom again, it looked like Avarice lost all momentum and tilted full, they would lose in a quick 0-3 against RamPaGe Gaming. Avarice Gaming had numerous moments of brilliance but overall it seemed that they simply lost steam late into the tournament.
Venom at times would seem strong but their biggest performance would be their first game against Avarice and their win against ItsNutty. The first series could have gone either way but unfortunately, Venom were the team that couldn't clutch up. However, against ItsNutty, it seemed as if they would fall early in the hardpoint, until the hometown favourites wrestled control of the game and the series. Unfortunately, they would be eliminated by an Avarice Gaming that was warmed and ready from their close match against RamPaGe Gaming.
ItsNutty was an interesting team; even talking to the players, no one really expected them to make it through the qualifiers. Their team for the most part would always seem as if one player would go quiet, ultimately impacting the team's performance. After being wiped in the first series at the start of the tournament, ItsNutty would start wake up in their second series but unfortunately were out-rotated in the hardpoint and out-played in the SND.
